Listen: Pop Covers

You may have noticed it's been a little quiet around here lately (see last week's post, Confession: I'm Exhausted). Thank you for bearing with me while I juggle an abnormally hectic schedule.

Today I wanted to share with you three musical treasures I discovered over the course of this week. As a bit of background, I have an obsession with pop song covers. A few years back, a college friend introduced me to a band called Boyce Avenue and ever since then I've been hooked on acoustic and stripped down takes of Top 40 songs.

Late last week, that same college friend emailed me this video of an a cappella group called Twisted Measure from Elon University performing Sia's "Chandelier." I love the way they slowed down the intro. I got goosebumps at the 1:30 mark and the 3:10 mark. What a voice!

That same day I found (in my Facebook newsfeed) this killer video of Kelly Clarkson covering Rihanna's "Better Have My Money" in the BBC Live Lounge. I can't get over the combo of the piano, Kelly's fierce attitude and her soulful backup singers. It's perfection.

Naturally I've saved the best for last.

If you didn't catch Ed Sheeran on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" then your day is about to get a whole lot better. Jimmy often has musical acts perform with his house band, The Roots. On this episode, Ed and The Roots took on Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen." This version is 200 times better than the original! It has already racked up more than four million views on YouTube.

Swoon. Ed, will you marry me?

Tell me, do you share my love of pop covers? Have any favorites that I absolutely must listen to?
