Stay: Hotel Urbano

On April 10th I packed my bags and headed south to Miami, FL for my little sister's wedding. Because my parents downsized from a Victorian house in Newton to a two bedroom condo, they were worried there wouldn't be enough space for the whole family in the days leading up to the wedding. With that in mind, they outsourced me to a hotel up the street called Hotel Urbano.

This hotel is in a very interesting location. It's at the apex of Brickell Ave (downtown), Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove. You definitely can't stay at this hotel unless you have a car, because it's not walking distance to anything.

The lobby of the hotel is very funky. I love the bright orange screens.

The first floor is home to the hotel's restaurant which has lipstick red chairs. I adore the "ladies who lunch" painting on the back wall.

There is art work displayed in every nook and cranny of the hotel. Here's a look at the gallery wall on the first floor and the piece mounted directly next to the elevator.

In the elevator, you'll be greeted by a friendly carpet. At night it reads "Good evening" and you guessed it, in the a.m. it says "Good morning."

The museum-like curation continued on the second floor with these bold paintings.

When I opened the door to my room, I discovered a pizza delivery menu. I can't decide if this is a great sign or something horrifying . . .

The room was very simple. When I travel for work many of those hotels have brightly colored walls, crazy art work and patterned bedding. This was very mellow.

I enjoyed the serenity of this ocean painting above the headboard.

I even had a little sitting area with a mustard colored couch.

The highlight of the room was definitely the spa-like bathroom. I had a very spacious shower and a vanity with plenty of room for all my lotions and potions.

Of all the amenities at the hotel, the most impressive, hands down, was the outdoor fire pit.

When I checked in the first night it was at about 10pm and the fire was already blazing. People were sitting with their drinks, just hanging out. The reflection of the fire over the swimming pool was gorgeous.

Hotel Urbano is a great spot if you know Miami well and just need a place to rest your head. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you are hoping to walk anywhere, especially to the beach.

Next up, I'll share with you my stay at the wedding hotel!
