Stay: Dream Hotel

Monday and Tuesday of this week I was in New York City for work. I've been traveling back and forth to the Big Apple regularly since I started my job a year ago and each time I have stayed in a different hotel. For this trip my co-worker made the selection and chose the Dream Hotel at 55th and Broadway.

When I got into Penn Station Monday afternoon I decided to walk to the hotel (2o blocks). I knew I was getting close and just as I was about to pull out my phone to confirm the location I spotted the Dream lavender colored flags whipping in the wind.

When I crossed the street to enter the hotel I couldn't help but notice the sign above the door on the building adjacent to it. At first I thought I must have been seeing things, but I squinted, walked closer and sure enough, the hotel is attached to the Bad Boy Entertainment headquarters!

Throughout our entire stay, every time we walked outside I would walk very slowly past the Bad Boy building in case P. Diddy and Farnsworth Bentley decided to come out.

After I got over the shock of my P. Diddy proximity I entered the hotel through the 55th Street entrance.

The lobby of the dream hotel feels like "The Little Mermaid."

It's impossible not to notice the giant fish tank in the center of the lobby.

The nautical theme continues with a piece of art work hanging above the check in desk - a boat made from silver wire.

As you walk further into the lobby area, the decor only gets more grand. Check out this jade colored sculpture in the lobby's sitting area.

Even the lobby storage closets have pizazz!

Once checked in I received my room keys which had this bird meets angel wings design on them.

I took the elevator up to my room and when I opened the door I thought I was in a night club! Check out the blue light coming from the room's desk.

The rest of the room was very simple - all white with a few strategic, blue accents. For example, the bedding was all white, but set against this navy blue, padded head board. How very Chuck Bass.

Across from the bed was a wall mounted, flat screen TV above an IKEA-like piece that concealed the minibar.

On the far wall of the room was a white sitting chair with a view of the street down below.

Though the bathroom was small, I love the blue wall in the shower!

The vanity area felt a bit crowded and there wasn't really any counter space which makes doing your hair and make up quite difficult.

When I opened the closet door to hang my dresses, look what I found! Ahhhh, fluffy robes.

Overall, I wasn't super impressed with my hotel room. The room design wasn't anything special and the bathroom was tiny. However, I will say, that bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in.

During our stay we also made time for drinks at the hotel's restaurant, Serafina. The restaurant has a great city view, but you barely notice it because you can't take your eyes off this piece on the back wall!

How cool is that? I want it for my apartment.

Though the Dream Hotel is in a great location, has a magnificent lobby, a stylish restaurant and some of the coziest beds in town, it still can't compete with my Manhattan favorite, the Gramercy Park Hotel.

What is the best hotel you've stayed in while visiting New York?
