American Idol: First Star Spotted

Every year I watch American Idol with one of my college girlfriends. Mock if you must, but we love it. Though I only like to watch the good singers, she loves these first few weeks where the producers relish in the horrible, tone deaf, train wrecks.

Last night as we watched the second night of auditions, we braced ourselves for what seemed like it would be another painful rendition. The producers put together a video package about this young man named Brett from Boca Raton, FL who has been teased in school his whole life and recently discovered that it's so much better to just be yourself. They also cut to shots of his gorgeous parents talking about how special he is. You know the routine, we thought they were leading into a disaster moment after the build up.

Boy were we wrong! Brett told the judges he was going to sing his favorite song, "Bohemian Rhapsody" (we winced at the thought) and shockingly, he nailed it! We were cheering from the couch and immediately decided he is one of our front runners for Hollywood Week.

In case you missed it, here is Brett's awesome performance:

You go, Carrot Top! We're rooting for you!
