Grey's Anatomy: The Return And The Crossover

Last night after weeks of anticipation Grey's Anatomy returned! The writers gave us a comeback episode full of major drama and surprises (my most favorite kind).

Let's start with Sloan who has become totally, unhealthily infatuated with his biological daughter, also named Sloan (go figure). His biggest concern is the safety of his daughter and her unborn baby, which drives a wedge between him and Lexi. He begs Lexi to come around to the idea of Sloan living with them, and when she says she can't bare it, he says "if you ask me to choose, I'll choose her." Well, there you have it. Lexi runs right from his place to Alex's trailer (definitely did not see that coming). Alex and Lexi decide to channel their pain into a hot make out. Delightful plot twist, Shonda! Bravo!

Back at the hospital Teddy is letting Cristina fly solo on a valve replacement surgery. Things get messy and Owen screams at Teddy for not helping Cristina when the surgery took an unexpected turn. Teddy decides to leave Seattle Grace because she can't bare to be around Owen, but not be with him. In the most shocking moment of the night, Cristina runs after Teddy, begs her to stay and be her mentor, and even offers to give up Owen in exchange for her agreeing to stay at Seattle Grace. WHAT?! I was stunned.

In a few other notable moments, Meredith tells Derek the Chief is drinking again (I don't see that confession leading anywhere positive) and Derek tries to set up Dr. Bailey with an oncologist in the hospital, which she does not receive warmly.

This comeback hour was followed up by a crossover to Kate Walsh's spin off show Private Practice.

Within the first ten minutes of Private Practice Sloan and Addison were naked, on the floor of her office, post-coital. Sloan tends to have that effect on women.

Sloan brought his daughter to Addison's practice in L.A. to be treated. Addison operated on the baby and Sloan (the daughter). After her surgery Sloan started asking about adoption agencies, a decision that would surely crush her dad, but could mean a reconciliation with Lexi.

Riding his wave of emotions, Sloan tells Addison he wants to move to L.A., be with her and have her help raise the baby. Addison seems to be buying it until the very end of the hour when she asks if he really wants to make all these changes or is he just trying to numb the pain. You can figure out his true intentions.

This hour we also learned that while Addison and Sloan were together in New York (after she separated from Derek) she got pregnant and chose to have an abortion. If she ever shared that before, I don't remember hearing about it and was quite surprised.

I have to say, I only watch Private Practice during the cross over episodes, but I really enjoyed this one. Almost enough to make me want to watch every week. I have always loved Amy Brenneman (she was BRILLIANT in Judging Amy), I had such a crush on Tim Daly on Wings (and my god is he sexy) and of course, Taye Diggs (enough said). The story lines in this episode were interesting and the characters seem flawed in a way that makes you root for them.

In preview's for next week's Grey's, Izzie returns! Apparently Alex decides its a good idea to let her know he has slept with someone else. Nice. After only one week back on the air, I'm completely hooked again! Congrats Shonda on two solid hours of entertainment! Seriously.
