Dining Out: Silver Dollar Bar & Grill

On our first evening in Jackson Hole, Wyoming we made a dinner reservation downtown. We were excited to explore, and wanted to be in the heart of the action.

We decided on Silver Dollar Bar & Grill, which is the restaurnat inside the Wort Hotel. The Wort is very centrally located and has tons of free parking right out front.

The dining room has a saloon vibe.

We were seated a large, round table right in front of a big, open window to the street. It was lovely to feel the fresh air, without having to sit directly in the sun.

Our waiter was kind and friendly, quickly bringing out our drinks and a loaf of warm rosemary bread.

Between us, we ordered one glass of Rosé, two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, and two Summertime cocktails, which were vodka, soda water, mint and lime.

The Silver Dollar menu is short on appetizers and heavy on entrees, so we skipped right to the main course. To my left, a friend ordered the smoked beef short ribs with tomato ragout, broccolini and cheddar grits.

When I asked how the dish tasted, she replied, "The short rib is fatty, but good. The grits are tasty and the broccolini has a nice char to it."

To her left, a friend was enjoying the gnocchi with San Marzano tomato sauce, zucchini and basil.

After a few bites, she explained, "The gnocchi itself is really nice and the sauce is great, but I do wish there was a little parmesan cheese on top." This dish is one of the vegan choices on the menu, but clearly it needed a little more oomph!

Straight across from me, a pal had ordered the salmon with carrots and peas. I could tell from the moment the plate hit the table it wasn't going to be enough food.

She agreed, "The salmon itself is very tasty, but I wish it had a carb - rice, mashed potatoes - instead of just the veggies."

Directly next to me, a friend went for a soup and salad combo: French onion soup and the berry spinach salad.

On the soup, she shared, "It's nice. Not too salty, and the ratio of soup to cheese to bread is great." From across the table, a friend shouted, "Molly loves to talk about ratios!" These girls sure do know me.

The salad was topped with goat cheese and fresh berries. She admitted, "I was hoping for more goat cheese, but the fresh fruit is lovely and the dressing is delicious."

I went with the basil and ricotta stuffed shells, which were swimming in a sea of roasted red pepper cream and topped with sautéed kale.

This was so filling that I was only able to eat three of my shells! I loved the sauce and the kale was cooked perfectly.

I was hoping the girls would be up for dessert, but everyone was just too stuffed. Silver Dollar offers a chocolate lava cake, bourbon and chocolate bread pudding, peach and huckleberry crisp, key lime pie and lemon cake. Something to look forward to for next time!

After dinner, we walked across the hotel lobby to the bar. There are silver dollars embedded in the bar and in all the tables - a very fun, Western touch.

As we were walking out, we were about to take a selfie in front of Snow King Mountain. A young girl saw us and asked, "Want me to get the group shot?" I'm so glad she did, because she had serious skills!

This is one of my favorite photos from the trip.
