It's week three of quarantine here in Boston and I am flying through everything Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu have to offer!
I know many of us are having decision fatigue with what to watch, so each week I've been sharing a few recommendations. In case you missed them:
This week, it's all about shows and movies that will make you smile. I think we could all use a laugh right now.
1. The Good Place (Netflix) - If you've never watched creator Mike Schur's comedy about life in the afterlife, now is the time! Ted Danson and Kristen Bell co-star in a show that is wickedly funny. Seasons one, two and three are currently available to stream. Each episode is just about 22 minutes long.
2. Always Be My Maybe (Netflix) - Did you miss this Ali Wong rom-com when it first debuted in May 2019? Wong co-stars opposite Randall Park. They play childhood best friends who become love interests as adults. There is an epic cameo from Keanu Reeves that will have you in hysterics. Here's my original review.
3. Nailed It! (Netflix) - If you have never seen Nailed It, your weekend is about to get so much better. This baking competition show features home cooks attempting to recreate some fairly elaborate desserts. When they are ready to present their finished product to the judges, they spin their cake stand around and shout, "Nailed it!" When they show the side-by-side of the original vs. their creation, prepare to laugh so hard you cannot breathe.
4. The Big Sick (Amazon) - This is one of my favorite movies and I've re-watched it so many times. It's the real-life love story of Silicon Valley actor Kumail Nanjiani and his wife, Emily V. Gordon. It's honest, emotional and freaking hilarious. Here's my original review.
5. The Mindy Project (Hulu) - If you never watched Mindy Kaling's show when it was live on air, catch up now! She plays a gynecologist working in a practice with a bunch of eccentric personalities. It always made me laugh out loud (and covet all of Mindy's outfits!).
6. Younger (Hulu) - Younger is one of my all-time faves. It airs on TV Land, so doesn't get the audience it deserves! It stars Broadway actress Sutton Foster as Liza, a forty-year-old divorcee struggling to get work. Before having her daughter, she worked in publishing, but now no one will hire her. How does she decide to solve this problem? My pretending to be twenty six to compete with the hoards of millennials applying for these positions. All the episodes are available to stream on Hulu.
