Holiday Gift Guide 2017: Treats Of Boston

Back in January 2016 Pop.Bop.Shop. celebrated its 7th birthday. In that milestone post I asked readers to share a "birthday wish" for what they would like to see on the site in the year to come. One reader comment really jumped out at me. It said:

Congratulations on seven awesome years! I'd love for you to do a post maybe trying or recommending some of the wonderful Boston-based food items that can be shipped out across the U.S. for those of us in other states who still want to enjoy them! :)

The comment was left by a friend who had moved from Boston to Denver and was really missing some of her local favorites.

I had planned to compile this list in December 2016, but other gift guide themes took over. This year, to ensure I would stick to it, I made this "Treats of Boston" gift guide one of my 2017 New Year's resolutions. Without further ado, here we go!

The best way to start your morning in Boston is with a sticky bun from Flour Bakery. Though Flour doesn't ship, you can get a package of four sticky buns through Goldbely.

Island Creek Oyster Bar is the city's go-to spot for fresh oysters. Have them shipped right to your door - no matter where you live.

Is there anything more Boston than Legal Seafood clam chowder? You can enjoy it anytime by ordering straight from their website.

The fastest way to spot a tourist downtown or on the T is if they are carrying a box from Mike's Pastry. No local waits in that line. Turns out you don't have to wait in that line ever again. You can order their cannoli-making kit and recreate the deliciousness of Mike's at home.

The Boston Cream Pie may be the city's most well known dessert. It was invented at the Omni Parker House and they will ship you a pie!

Cardullo's in Harvard Square is a popular spot for deli sandwiches, beautifully packaged candy and impressive wines. They also offer fabulous gift baskets, including this New England sampler. It's packed with things like Stonewall Kitchen blueberry jam and Boston baked beans. If you use promo code CFS2017, you can receive free shipping today (December 1, 2017).

I am sad to report that JP Licks, the undisputed best ice cream in Boston, does not ship. I searched high and low for a way to send their pints, but it just doesn't exist yet.

Hopefully today's guide helps you send friends and family an authentic taste of Boston this holiday season.
