Emmy Awards 2016: Best And Worst Dressed

I love the Emmy Awards because they fall in September, four months before the height of awards season in January, February and March. The Emmys are like the very delicious appetizer before the main course. I also enjoy them because they celebrate primetime television and let's be honest, I watch a ton of TV (and Amazon and Netflix). 

I turned on the E! red carpet at about 6:00pm, just as the stars were arriving in mass. Below is my list of this year's best and worst dressed. 

BEST DRESSED

1) Priyanka Chopra - The Quantico actress turned heads in this stunning red gown by Jason Wu. The dress fit her perfectly and was paired with a sleek pony tail and matching red lip. 

2) Kristen Bell - This Zuhair Murad ball gown was one of my favorites all night. I loved the deep V neck, the cream color and the delicate sequins. Kristen's hair and subtle jewels were just the right compliment to the dress. 

3) Laverne Cox - The Orange is the New Black star glittered like the Emmy statue itself in this Naeem Kahn creation. She admitted to Giuliana Rancic that Beyonce was a possible winner in the category she was presenting, so she was hoping not to faint if she met Queen Bey. Also, US Weekly noticed Beyonce wore a very similiar gold dress back in 2005. 

4) Aimee Teegarden - Our beloved Friday Night Lights daughter, Julie Taylor, looked stunning in a white KaufmanFranco dress with a silver embelishment at the waist. The dress really showed off her toned shoulders and arms. Her up do put 100 percent of the focus on the dress. She looked so grown up compared to her FNL days. 

5) Constance Zimmer - I squealed with excitement to see UnReal's resident villain looking so fierce on the red carpet. Her pink and white dress, shoes and handbag were all by Monique Lhuillier. The shape of the dress was super flattering and the bob with the blunt bangs gave a bit of an edge to an otherwise very feminine look. 

I was also really impresssed by Sarah Paulson in that heavily beaded green Prada dress, Viola Davis in that electric pink Marchesa gown and the oh-so-pregnant Kerry Washington in a super form-fitting dress by Brandon Maxwell. 

WORST DRESSED 

1) Anna Chlumsky - I'll always love My Girl, but this dress was hideous. It kills me to say that because it's by Christian Siriano, who I adore, but the shape was too puffy (yes, I know she just had a baby) and the train felt totally out of place. No, no, no. 

2) Amy Poehler - I've never really been a fan of Amy's red carpet choices. I loved her as a Golden Globes co-hostess, but she desperately needs a new stylist. This Pamela Roland dress was frog green and the cape-like top swallowed her. 

3) Amy Schumer - The Amys were just off their game last night. This Vivienne Westwood dress was way too tight and the make up was too subtle for an awards show of this caliber. 

4) Ryan Murphy - The producing genius behind Nip / Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story and The People vs. O.J. Simpson was wearing an awful, shiny, teal green jacket. He needs to apply his creative genius to his wardrobe, not just his shows. 

5) Mandy Moore - I love that Mandy Moore is back in the spotlight again, but this Prabal Gurung dress was a miss. I actually liked it from the waist up, but the sheer portion of the skirt ruined it.
