The Mindy Project: Getting Married

Guys, let's all take a moment to mourn the end of this season of "The Mindy Project."

I am in complete denial that the season is over and that we'll no longer be able to look forward to sharing our Tuesday nights with Mindy. Well, at least until the fall.

When I sat down to watch last night's episode, my RCN cable box decided to do this fun thing where it just shuts off without any warning. So, the first six minutes of the episode did not record. I was able to begin watching at the moment when Peter (with grotesquely long hair) is sitting in Mindy's office.

After that scene (and whatever came before it that I missed), Mindy visits a doctor Peter recommended who is played by Laura Dern. I still love her after her touching performance in "Wild." She plays a Ukrainian doctor and while speaking to Mindy she calls her fat and old. Then she tries to back peddle and says, "For this baby, this mansion you give!" (referring to her size) then she follows that up by jabbing, "You are pregnant, yes?"

Later on, Mindy and Danny head out to Staten Island and when they open the front door to Annette's house, it's a surprise baby shower. Also a surprise, Annette and Dot's matching sunflower vests.

Morgan crashes the baby shower and brings with him four blasts from Mindy's past - Lee (Schmitt from "New Girl"), Casey, Jamie (BJ Novak!) and Josh (I had forgotten about him). Morgan announces, "I've assembled the four of your ex-boyfriends I find the sexiest." I think my brain suffered a severe case of pop culture/celebrity overload at the moment those four men arrived on screen.

Mindy sends all the men away and confesses to Danny that she hasn't told her parents that they are a couple. That truth leads to Danny revealing one of his own, which is that he doesn't know if he wants to get married again. For the record, saying to a woman over 30 that you don't want to get married is like shooting yourself in the face.

Danny and Mindy wind up having a pretty sad and somber conversation about their relationship. The one moment of levity is when Mindy says (in all seriousness), "Danny, I want you to love me in a way that I can show on Instagram."

In the final scene of the episode, Danny steps off a plane in India to meet Mindy's parents. He skips Peter's wedding in Austin and flies around the world to show his devotion. He even shaved.

Now, do you think Danny knocked on the correct door? Will the next season begin with a comedy of errors? Or will we see the shocked faces of Mindy's mom and dad? More importantly, how are we going to survive Tuesdays from now until September?
