Coming Soon: Pizza The App

Guys, something major is coming to Boston. Three words for you: Pizza on demand.

Meet Pizza the App, a startup company committed to bringing pizza to the people of Boston in a way that's faster and more delicious than ever.

When I first got wind of this idea, I thought to myself, "This is too good to be true." Thankfully, Pizza the App CEO and social media intern, Michael Brandt, was at the ready to explain it to me.

PBS: What is the idea behind Pizza the App?

MB: Our concept is very much like Uber. You want pizza, we'll get you pizza.

PBS: So it's 8:00pm, I'm leaving work and I want a pizza. How can I get it with the app?

MB: You download the app. Then when you want a pizza, you'll tell us what you want, what you want on it and place the order. Then, we do the work to get it.

PBS: Do I decide which pizzeria it comes from?

MB: Once you place your order, we'll look for the best pizzeria within one mile that can create your pie. We optimize for Yelp scores and online reviews, with the goal being to get you the best pizza, as fast as possible. If there is nothing within a mile, we'll expand the range to two miles and so on. If the place has a delivery minimum, we'll find a place that doesn't. We do all the work for you.

PBS: What if someone would like to pick the pizzeria?

MB: Our model is set up to make this as seamless as possible. By not making you choose the pizzeria, we're removing yet another obstacle standing between you and your pizza. Just like with Uber, you don't pick your driver, but they guarantee he'll show up.

PBS: This all sounds pretty awesome. What will it cost?

MB: The price will be on par with what the pizzeria charges. There will be a slight premium for convenience, and of course tax and tip will be included.

PBS: Now for the most important question, how far will you deliver?

MB: If there is already a great pizzeria that would deliver in your neighborhood, we'll deliver there too.

PBS: You've already launched in San Francisco, how soon can the hungry pizza eaters of Beantown start using the app?

MB: Right now we're beta testing in Boston. You can sign up for the service via email and those who do sign up now, will get advance access to the app.

PBS: What are your hopes with launching in the Boston market?

MB: We want to champion awesome local pizzerias. We're huge advocates of supporting local. That's why we incorporated online reviews into the optimization, so that the best places rise to the top.

Ultimately, we would love to go to the best local places and say, "Hey, there's a demand for this. People really want your pizza and they want it after you close. How can we work together?"

PBS: If you can get pizza to my door past 2:00am, you've won me over for life.

MB: We'd love to get to a place where we helping to change the hours of places in order to serve the people. We'd also love to encourage places to start making pizzas before you even place your order, in anticipation of the demand.

PBS: You have definitely thought a lot about pizza. What about other cuisine?

MB: I am obsessed with pizza. I can't get enough pizza data. Honestly, we just want to nail pizza. We want this app to be the best thing for pizza. The goal isn't to do this and then move onto an app for burritos or sushi, the dream is to do pizza better. To get places to stay open later and to offer faster delivery.

PBS: Well, now we're hungry!

If the idea of pizza on demand appeals to you (and I don't see how it couldn't) add yourself to the customer list now. You can do that right here.

You can also follow @pizzatheapp on Twitter and Instagram. I highly recommend the Instagram follow, they have managed to uncover the strangest and most hilarious pizza photos.

So Boston, are you ready for pizza at the tap of an app?
