Grey's Anatomy: One Patient

I was in Las Vegas last week for work, so wasn't able to share my usual weekly recap with you. Tonight, you get a double dose of Grey's rants and raves.

Last week:

This hour Callie throws down with Derek, making it known she isn't going to drop their collaborative research without a fight. She convinces Derek to stand up to the White House and sure enough, they preserve the project. Phew! I didn't want to deal with Callie suing Derek.

Also on the research front, Meredith and Stephanie get a new partner in crime, Eric. He is played by actor Paul James, also known as Calvin from ABC Family's Greek.

On the patient front, the whole hospital is a buzz with a patient who absorbed his own twin. That scientific abnormality always makes me think of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, when Toula's aunt says she too absorbed her twin.

Around the hospital the HR "no relationships" policy is still making people uncomfortable. Alex is trying desperately to get Jo to sign their love contract. He persuasively says, "This makes it so I can kiss you whenever I want to."

Speaking of signing, Mrs. Catherine Avery is back on the scene and is furious with Jackson and April for getting married without a prenuptial agreement. She explains that if they have children, those children will sit on the Avery board, make critical decisions and help control over $480 million dollars. Yup, they definitely didn't take that into consideration.

After hurricane Catherine, the whole gang throws a surprise party for the Chief. I still love the father/daughter-like relationship between Bailey and the Chief.

Lastly, all episode Cristina tries to make an online dating profile for Owen. When she presses him, "Come on, what do you want in a woman?" He starts to describe her. I totally teared up.

In the previews for the next episode, it looks like we'll be focusing on Owen and Cristina's relationship and what could have been.

Before we move on, for the fourth week in a row, the show featured at totally strange cover song. Do you think they have a new musical director?

Tonight:

One patient. One moment.

Tonight's episode of Grey's began with a man being informed that he is paralyzed. He was in a car accident and his spine was irreparably damaged.

Cristina has to ask him if he would like to stay on the ventilator that is helping him breathe, or disconnect it, which would end his life.

Cristina walks out of that room and rushes down the hall toward Owen. She says, "You and I are throwing so much away. We should be together. You are the love of my life and it's stupid, just stupid, for us to keep pretending. I love you. I want to be with you. For real. Forever. It's as simple as that."

After that moment, the show fast forwards and rewinds multiple times to the life Owen and Cristina could have had together.

We see them with a baby; a boy named Theo. We seem them pregnant with a second child. We see Cristina present the Harper Avery Award to Shane and then a few minutes later we see Cristina receive that award for the fourth consecutive year. We see Owen destroy his professional career with alcohol.

The message of this episode is: everything can change with just one person. One moment.

This hour felt like reading a choose your own adventure book. Remember those?

I couldn't help but laugh at the futuristic looking scrubs. I also loved the idea that some day Dr. Bailey would have her own TV show.

In previews for next week, a virus spreads throughout the hospital, infecting patients and doctors alike. I feel myself squirming already.
