The 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards: Rants And Raves

Tonight the 2014 awards season continued with the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. I love the SAG Awards because the trophies are given by the actors to their fellow actors. Every year in at least half the speeches, the winner clutches his or her chest and says, "This award really means the most, knowing it comes for my peers." I also enjoy this show because it's only two hours long!

During the red carpet tonight there was an outrageously cute interaction between Jared Leto and Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones. Leto walked right up to Clarke and put his arm around her as she was wrapping her interview with Giuliana Rancic. He smiles and says to her, "I haven't seen your show, but I know people are obsessed with it." She fires back, "I know your band and I've seen your movie." Ahhhh, a Hollywood romance rumor is born.

The awards show begins with the SAG tradition of actors sharing their personal career stories and ending the monologue with, "My name is XYZ and I'm an actor." The opening actor this year was my favorite, Rob Lowe! He was followed by Juliette Lewis, Kaley Cuoco, Steve Coogan and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The first award of the evening went to Lupita Nyong'o of 12 Years A Slave, who was humbled and gracious as she claimed her statue. Jared Leto then proceeded to take the stage and accept his second award of the season for Dallas Buyers Club. Michael Douglas also accepted his second award of the season for Behind the Candelabra.

Modern Family took back-to-back awards, first a solo prize for Ty Burrell, followed by a win for the whole ensemble.

Rita Moreno, best know as Anita from West Side Story, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award. Only in Hollywood can you look like that at 82 years old!

Then my girl Mindy Kaling came to the podium with the dreamy James Marsden to present the award for female lead in a drama series. The winner, Maggie Smith of Downton Abbey, was not present. How rude!

Bryan Cranston took his final victory lap as Walter White, winning for male actor in a drama series for Breaking Bad. A few moments later, the whole cast would celebrate a win for drama series ensemble.

Collecting his second piece of hardware this awards season, Matthew McConaughey won for Dallas Buyers Club. I really need to see it before the Oscars!

After losing to Amy Adams at the Golden Globes, Cate Blanchett took home the trophy for female actor for Blue Jasmine.

The show closed with the cast of American Hustle taking home those little green men.

This whole night made me a million times more excited for the Oscars. March 2nd, here we come!

Now onto what's really important, the clothes. Below are my picks for the best and worst dressed.

BEST DRESSED:

Lupita Nyong'o - For me, tonight's best dressed award goes to Lupita Nyong'o of 12 Years A Slave. Lupita wowed at the Golden Globes in a red, Ralph Lauren dress/cape hybrid and tonight she brought her A game yet again. This aqua Gucci dress is sunning. That floral collar is everything.

Sofia Vergara - Last week at the Golden Globes, Sofia turned heads in a black Zac Posen gown. On the red carpet tonight she dazzled in Donna Karan. She told Giuliana Rancic, "I feel very Jessica Rabbit." I think she looks like the world's sultriest disco ball.

Matthew McConaughey  and Camila Alves - I gave high praise to Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves at the Globes and tonight they rose to the occasion yet again. I love Matthew's patterned Dolce & Gabbana jacket and Camila's mustard yellow, vintage Donna Karan Atelier gown. That yellow is breathtaking with her skin tone.

Jennifer Lawrence - Last week Jennifer Lawrence made a major fashion misstep at the Golden Globes. Tonight she completely redeemed herself in this sequin Dior column dress.

Aaron Paul - The Breaking Bad star always has great energy on the red carpet and tonight he looked dapper in a Burberry suit and studded dress shoes. I want to high five him for injecting personality into his formal wear.

WORST DRESSED:

Mayim Bialik - She'll always be Blossom to me, which excuses most of her misfires, but tonight's dress is just too horrifying to let it go.

Ariel Winter - I cannot believe Ariel Winter's family, friends and PR team let her dress like this tonight. Her cleavage is out of control and totally inappropriate for a high school age girl.

Kerry Washington - I'm obsessed with Scandal and Olivia Pope. I've been cheering for Kerry Washington all season, but tonight she lost her mind a bit. She's wearing a bun with a headband, which looks a bit post-gym. She then paired a pink sequin crop top with a black, pouffy skirt with a maternity band. What was she thinking?

Dermot Mulroney - I've had a crush on Dermot Mulroney since My Best Friend's Wedding. When I saw him on camera tonight I gasped. His hair is awful and he looks like he has aged ten years! No, no, no.

That's it folks! There you have it, my picks for the best and worst dressed.

Who were you loving tonight on the red carpet?
