Grey's Anatomy: Ducky

Tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy starts with Cristina and Shane in the on call room. Finally!

Over the course of the episode they work together on a pediatric case, even performing surgery on a live stream.

Later on in the hour, Meredith asks Cristina if she thinks Shane is trying to be more like her because he's all of a sudden weirdly aggressive and mean. Cristina rips into her, further widening the gap in their friendship.

Cristina and Shane eventually see a turn around for their teeny tiny patient and they do the most adorable victory dance in the hallway.

Also on the medical front, Meredith and Stephanie are trying to implant their vein into a sheep. After a successful surgery, the sheep dies. Wah wah.

Callie and Derek are working with a patient named Becca to use a robotic hand. She can't seem to move even one finger until Derek realizes her husband would motivate her more than any clinical trial result. That scene where she looks as her husband and is finally able to move the hand - so touching.

Tonight Alex's dad Jimmy shows up at the hospital in full drug detox. Jo tries to make him leave, but Owen insists he stay. He begins to hallucinate and say terrible, abusive things. Jo works to manage him, but ultimately he throws her up against a wall (we knew that was coming).

Across the hospital Dr. Bailey is being tested by a psychologist. She is trying to do just five stitches without rearranging the tools or counting anything. I cannot understand how the writers think we are going to believe she just randomly developed severe OCD.

While she is struggling, the Chief talks Bailey into understanding that she has a disease and she needs to accept help. She begrudgingly takes her first pill. Also, where is Ben?

Also this hour, Jackson and Matthew wind up walking to work together and witnessing a man get dragged down the street by a taxi cab. They treat him on the sidewalk and then eventually in the ER. I like watching the tension between the two of them.

We meet Kepner's three sisters tonight. Of course they all look exactly like her. They call her "Ducky" because she used to be the ugly duckling. Her monologue when she stands up to them is so excellent, particularly when she yells, "I'm a swan and a surgeon!"

In previews for next week's winter finale, we learn we'll be attending Kepner's wedding. The voice over also said, "The last five minutes will leave you begging for more all winter long." I always do!
