Grey's Anatomy: Daddy Issues

This week's episode of Grey's Anatomy was much like last week's in that nothing actually happened.

Remember the good old days when Grey's was hilariously funny or tearfully poignant? No more. Now we just get mediocre.

This hour Derek was narrating the show instead of Meredith. Whenever they have a change in narrator it always raises a red flag for me.

We learned tonight that our interns passed their exams and they received white coats with their names embroidered above the pocket. Shane sees Brooks' jacket in the locker room has to excuse himself. I keep wondering when he is going to admit to the others what really happened.

There were patient story lines this week about tumors - one in the brain and one in the heart, but the true patient story is a lingering one, the one about Alex's dad. Alex has been sitting at a bar for several nights in a row watching his dad play guitar. Tonight we saw him play alongside him. We also saw him punch his dad in the face after learning he has abandoned yet another kid. Is anyone else starting to think this guy isn't really his dad? That maybe Jo messed up the paternity test?

At the end of the episode Arizona sends a late night text to Murphy after having scolded her earlier in the day. I don't like the idea of the two of them together at all. Not even a little.

There were two interesting developments in the final ten minutes of the hour, both involving Meredith. First she gives Cristina the smack down saying, "You don't have time for people who want things you don't want." This is true, but still. Very harsh! And then Derek offers to slow down his career so that Meredith can ramp hers up. Is there anything McDreamy won't do?

In the previews for next week it seems our gang is getting into the Halloween spirit. Zombies? Oh boy.
