Grey's Anatomy: My Heart

This week "Grey's Anatomy" returned from the holiday hiatus and we picked up exactly where we left off - literally. It felt like we came back from a very long commercial break. Bailey and Ben's wedding guests were still waiting, Adele was still coughing up blood in the ER and Owen and Cristina were going at it.

At the wedding, Ben announces to the guests that Bailey has gone into an emergency surgery. Meredith decides to leave the wedding and head to the hospital to see if she can relieve Bailey.
At the hospital Cristina is getting dressed and ready to head to the wedding and when she walks out the hospital front doors we see her black dress. Holy mother! Those slits. My friend who was watching with me commented, "How Angelina Jolie of her!"
Just as she's about to leave, a motorcycle gang swoops in. You know Cristina, she can't resist a gruesome surgery.
In the ER the Chief is screaming at Adele's nursing home administrator. He says, "When you told me my visits were agitating her, I stopped coming." To which the administrator replies, "When I said you should visit less frequently, I didn't mean stop coming all together." In that instant the Chief lunges toward him and Meredith has to scurry over and break them up.
Across the ER we meet a woman who goes by Gasoline. From the couch my friend remarked, "Geez. That is one tough broad." More on the bikers later.
Back at the wedding Callie is obsessing over the mac and cheese cupcakes when Arizona informs her that she booked them a room upstairs. In the room Arizona asks Callie to wait in the bathroom while she takes off her leg. Callie calls Derek from the tub to say she's going to have sex for the first time in months. Too funny!
When Callie comes out, Arizona is still on the edge of the bed, fully clothed. She apologies to Callie for being so nasty the last few months and pleads with her not to run. When Callie responds she brings up her own car accident, which I had completely forgotten about!
Back at the wedding Karev and Jo are at the bar comparing childhood war stories. She fools him with her bucket story which inappropriately causes a moment of comic relief when she admits to making ti up. The she shows off her fake crying skills. She agrees to teach Karev to do the same and they use their fake crying to get a free hotel room. I loved when she walks out of the bathroom and drunkenly says, "This is so soft. It's like it's made of polar bear."
The rest of the interns are back at the hospital. Stephanie and Avery are staring longingly at each other from over their face masks while one of the bikers is trying to convince Shane that Kepner likes him. I laughed so hard when Shane tried to wriggle away from Kepner as she showed him how to do a cross stitch.
Meanwhile the Chief is watching Adele's surgery from the gallery. He thinks he is about to lose her when he has an idea for treatment. He shouts into the intercom to Bailey and they are able to save her. When she wakes up, Adele recognizes the Chief immediately. Thank god!
Relieved to have helped save Adele, Meredith heads down to Derek's hospital room and crawls into bed with him. I completely forgot she is pregnant!
Across the hall one of the bikers tells Owen he's a "cager' and he's stuck in a metal box. He tells him he needs to come out of the box and once he experiences that freedom, he should never give that up. Is that foreshadowing for the divorce or what?
A few scenes later Owen has Cristina sign the divorce papers. He says, "We should never have gotten married in the first place." Ouch. They both sign and they both begin to cry. Then Owen passionately kisses her, which seemed an odd reaction to getting to divorced.
Out in the parking lot Avery and Stephanie get in the car together and talk about how they could never hook up. Just mere seconds before they magnetize toward each other. I loved when Avery took off his shirt and he says, "Do you want me to put it back on?" and she replies, "What? Don't ever put it back on!" Amen, sister!
Ben finally comes to the hospital in search of his bride. Bailey starts rambling to him about how her ambition killed her last marriage. Ben asks, "Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me, even if it's only in five minute increments?" She says "I do" and without skipping a beat we jump to the wedding. Bailey looks gorgeous. And how cute is her son Tucker?
The Chief eventually comes to the reception which makes Bailey so happy. Meredith notices him and has a totally different reaction. She says, "You're here. No. When?" The Chief's eyes start to well with tears. He tells Meredith that Adele's heart just wasn't strong enough.
The Chief begins to watch Bailey and Ben dancing and then they shift to his memory of himself and Adele. My heart sank and I started to tear up. Especially when they played that sad version of "My Funny Valentine." Ah! My heart.
This week I've been thinking a lot about music in TV shows. How cool would it be to be the person who chooses the music? Tonight's episode was perfectly scored.
In previews for next week our gang reaches a settlement for the plane crash. They are each going to receive $15 million dollars. Will Owen get crucified in the settlement process?
