Stay: Hotel Indigo

Since taking my current job on May 1, 2011, I have had the opportunity to travel all over the country on behalf of my agency and my clients. It's been a very "pinch me" experience.

That experience continued in late October with a whirlwind, four day trip to New York City. Though I always try to stay at the Gramercy Park Hotel, it was booked the week I needed to go and I wound up at the Hotel Indigo.

The Hotel Indigo is on West 28th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue. It's right in the heart of the Flower District which means every morning you walk out to an army of trucks unloading fresh, wholesale flowers. It's kind of amazing.

Despite it's blue-ish name, the Hotel Indigo actually has a fascination with the color purple. Note the purple orchid on the reception desk and the artwork with the girl in the purple dress down below.

The hotel lobby had incredibly cool, modern light fixtures twinkling above the check-in desk.

Though I didn't have time to eat at the hotel's restaurant, China Latina, I did have time to marvel at the sexy red decor.

When I took the elevator up to my room, the door opened to reveal this mural on the wall:

I kind of love her! Very whimsical.

The Indigo had super fun carpet. This pattern reminded me a bit of Marimekko.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I put the key into my room's door, but on the other side I found this delightfully cozy set up.

My room had two double beds (one for me, one for my clothes), both with multi-colored, padded headboards.

One wall had a grouping of wooden framed mirrors. I like this as a home decor idea!

The mirrors provided cool reflections of the brightly colored hotel room.

The windows overlooking bustling Manhattan were veiled with cream colored, eyelet curtains.

Inside the armoir were the obligatory hangers, two white robes, the mini bar and the safe.

The mini bar items were presented in adorable small jars. They reminded me of a penny candy shop.

My room also had a desk, a reading chair and a TV table. I was too busy to use any of these things, but had I been staying longer (or working less) I am sure I could have rested in that chair after a long day of shopping.

I found something surprising underneath the bedside table - wine glasses! An odd place to keep them, but I'll take it.

The best part of the hotel room was the zen, blue bathroom.

The sink had generous counter space (necessary for make up) and a very well lit mirror.

I had a plethora of fluffy towels including six extra bath towels under the sink. I usually feel like hotel rooms never have enough towels. I was desperately trying to think of a way to use all seven!

The shower door (if you can even call it a door) only covered half of the shower stall which was a bit tricky. Maybe all those extra towels are for covering the soaking wet floor?

I have no idea what mattresses they use at the Hotel Indigo, but I slept so soundly and so comfortably every night I was there. Those mattresses are heaven!

I loved the serene bathroom and the fun, whimsical touches throughout the hotel.

The Hotel Indigo was perfectly located for me as I was traveling back and forth to an office in Herald Square. If you're looking for a hotel close to Herald Square or Times Square, I'd highly recommend resting your head (and your feet!) at the Indigo.
