Stay: Soho House

This weekend I was in New York City for my cousin's bachelorette party. We had a whirlwind weekend including a roof top, black tie engagement celebration, an elegant lunch at Mercer Kitchen, and a fantastic evening of dinner, drinks and dancing at STK, but the icing on the cake was our stay at the Soho House.

I first heard about the Soho House on an episode of Sex and the City. Samantha had moved to the same neighborhood and was desperately trying to become a member so she could make use of the roof top pool. The show portrayed the House as an exclusive, members-only getaway.

As we planned our bachelorette weekend, one of the bride's friends is a member of the Soho House and offered to help us reserve a room there for a night. The House is located in the Meatpacking District, next to see-and-be-seen dining spot, Pastis.

We arrived and entered through the unassuming front door and after checking in headed to our fifth floor room via a padded elevator. The walls of the elevator are a deep hunter green and feel like the world's most comfortable leather couch. It is clear that elevator could make anyone a little "friendly." In fact, we dubbed it the Chuck Bass elevator.

When we arrived at our room and opened the door we all gasped and squealed with delight! Right when you walked in there was a common room with a couch, large coffee table, bureau full of goodies, and a flat panel television.

The bedroom (separated by a lush, pink, velvet curtain) had a princess bed with the most elegant, ornate head board, and a mattress that could easily fit four people. Six if you're talking summer camp style.

Across from the bed was a large mirror on the wall, and beneath the mirror, a deep, egg shaped bath tub. The bedroom also had a sleek desk and antique dresser.

The bathroom was modern with a dual faucet sink, a separate room for the toilet, and a third room for the shower/steam room. Of course there were white fluffy robes and towels as well.

The room also featured two unique murals, including one of Albert Einstein holding a sign that read "Love is the Answer." How perfect for a bachelorette!

We slept over Saturday night and Sunday morning we had brunch on the roof top deck which has a swimming pool, several booths (made of two couches facing each other with a low patio table in between) and long dining tables for meals. There is also a full bar, and beds along the pool deck. Basically, heaven.

Along one wall of the roof deck there is a mural which has the words "Life is Beautiful" spray painted in hot pink. Was this place made for me or what?

We enjoyed a delicious meal, including this flavorful bowl of gazpacho and side of zucchini chips.

Through out our stay at the Soho House every staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful and acted like a close friend. Our room was over the top whimsical and our roof top brunch was the perfect way to end and already memorable weekend.

If you have the chance to treat yourself (or your friends) I highly recommend a stay at the Soho House. You will feel transported and long to return before you even leave.
