Dining Out: Rami's

Tonight I had dinner with a friend at Rami's in Coolidge Corner in Brookline. I've been eating at Rami's my entire life. Growing up in Newton, it was a quick ride down Beacon Street to falafel heaven. Since we can't all afford to fly to Israel every time we have a craving, this is the next best thing.

We visited Rami's tonight because a few weeks ago I had purchased a deal for the restaurant via Groupon, the group buying service. When we walked in we saw through the glass counter that many people had done the same, as their coupons were stacked underneath the cash register.

We stood in line to order and the manager said to me, "Hey, don't I know you? You look familiar. Are you following us on Twitter?" Ladies and gentleman, again, the power of social media. I am in fact following Rami's on Twitter (you can follow them too, @RamisBoston) and thanks to that online relationship, he recognized me right away.

As he built my falafel he politely asked if I would mind if he asked a few questions about Twitter. I gave him some quick pointers and in exchange he offered to provide our drinks on the house.

We sat at a two person table in the window with a great view of Harvard Street. I couldn't wait to bite into my falafel sandwich! I order "everything, hots, extra pickles" which means - a pita pocket stuffed with falafel, hummus, tahini, lettuce, red cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, pickles and hots. Are you drooling yet?

We also ordered a side of french fries, or as they Israelis call them, chips. In Israel you can actually order the french fries IN your falafel.

About 30 minutes and 30 napkins later, we had gobbled up our sandwiches and the french fries. We both agreed though incredibly delicious, falafel is not a date food. Far too messy.

Before leaving the manager made sure we each had a Rami's loyalty card, which gets stamped each time you make a purchase. Buy nine falafels and your tenth falafel is free!

In addition to the falafel, shawarma and other goodies you can order in the restaurant, Rami's also caters.

Be sure to visit the Rami's crew at 324 Harvard Street and follow them on Twitter @RamisBoston. We were promised, "deals coming soon!"
