Cirque du Soleil: OVO

In October I went with three girlfriends to Las Vegas to celebrate my 25th birthday. While we were there we saw the Cirque du Soleil LOVE show, which features all Beatles music. It was absolutely incredible. When I heard Cirque was bringing a show to Boston, I jumped on the tickets immediately!

Tonight I went with one of my girlfriends (who came to Las Vegas) to see the Boston Cirque show called OVO. The tent is set up on the Fan Pier, which is right next to the ICA and the courthouse on Seaport Blvd. As soon as we got off the Mass Pike we could see the tents directly in front of us and we squealed with delight.

Once you enter the Cirque area on the pier the inside of the tent has everything you could possibly imagine: concession stands, a pop up restaurant, gift shops and even beautiful recycling and compost stations! They thought of everything!

While you aren't able to take photos during the show, I was able to snap this picture right before the show began. The theme of the OVO show is insects. The costumes are brilliant and add great dimension to the show.

My two favorite acts were the red ants who juggled giants pieces of fruit and each other while performing incredible acrobatic stunts:

And I also loved the green men who jumped on and off a giant rock wall from trampolines below the stage. I am not doing their act any justice with this description, you simply have to see it for yourself.

The three main characters in this show had fun, easy to root for personalities that kept you entertained in between acts.

Now that I have seen two Cirque shows I can honestly say there are no other productions like these. The sets, the costumes, the music and the talent and athleticism of the performers is awe-inspiring.

OVO is at the Fan Pier until August 29th. Don't miss your chance to have the Cirque experience! Buy your tickets here.
