Dining Out: Taqueria Mexico

Tonight I had dinner with a group of coworkers at Taqueria Mexico in Waltham. The restaurant is located off the beaten path on Charles Street, behind Route 20. On the inside, Taqueria Mexico is a divey, hole in the wall, but just outside their front door they boast a spacious patio perfect for dinner on an early Spring night.

We sat outdoors on the patio and quickly discovered unlike most Mexican restaurants, Taqueria Mexico does not serve margaritas! They do however serve beer and wine, including the very popular beer, Dos Equis.

The menu covers all the Mexican favorites: quesadillas, burritos, tacos, tortas, and more. We started with the "nachos con todo" with extra guacamole. The plate arrived covered in guac and jalapenos (Mistaken by a coworker for pickles. As if!). The nachos were layered with cheese, refried beans, tomatoes and crisp lettuce. The plate was empty in about 90 seconds.

For dinner we tried a variety of plates - the chimichanga, the tacos, and the vegetarian plate. The veggie plate comes with two quesadillas (I went for one mushroom, one zucchini), a chile relleno, and beans & rice.

The portions at Taqueria Mexico are absolutely enormous. This is the best value for your dollar. While the restaurant is no frills, the food is delicious and the service is excellent. If you speak Spanish, I guarantee you will feel right at home.

If you are searching for a big, authentic, yet inexpensive meal, look no further than Taqueria Mexico.
