It's no secret that brunch is my favorite meal of week. This past Sunday I was on my way up to Westford, MA to see my friend Stephanie's latest flip house (which just hit the market if you're looking!) and we made a stop in Littleton, MA at Great Road Kitchen to have a quick bite before the open house.
The restaurant gets its name from the street that it's on, Great Road. When we walked in, the seating area by the hostess stand was flooded with natural light.
To the right, we saw a shuffle board table and a declarative sign, "Drink Whiskey."
Great Road Kitchen has a huge bar area, perfect for football season.
There's also a counter which serves as the restaurant's raw bar.
We sat towards the rear of the dining room, near the private event space. I love those two barn-style doors, but I wish they were the same color!
Once we were seated, we both noticed the beautiful bookshelf housing all the water and wine glasses. We spent a good five minutes discussing where we would put that piece of furniture in each of our homes.
I was excited to look at the menu (which I had peeked at online). Great Road Kitchen calls this weekend meal "Blunch" because they serve both breakfast and lunch items.
My brunch date asked our waitress if they served ice coffee (because it wasn't on the menu). She quickly replied, "We don't, but I can easily make you some." She returned a few minutes later with coffee in this adorable moose glass and a side of milk.
How precious is that milk carton creamer?
Surprise, surprise, I ordered a Bloody Mary. Great Road Kitchen's rendition was a little bit watery, but still had a nice kick.
The celery stalks were so tall I was worried I was going to get one up my nose!
To eat, my friend ordered the huevos rancheros. Great Road Kitchen proactively offers a substitution of smoked tofu in place of chorizo, which these two vegetarians greatly appreciated.
After several bites she said, "The flavors in this dish are fantastic, but it's all the same texture. It needs something crispy. I wish they had toasted the tortillas."
I decided on the eggs benedict with tomato and spinach. I was a bit miffed to discover the English muffin wasn't grilled or toasted, it was served at room temperature.
The eggs were over cooked, making it impossible for them to provide that runny yokes that binds everything together.
That being said, the home fries on the side were nice and crispy and I loved the addition of the onions. I ate every single one of those little potatoes.
Great Road Kitchen is right off 495 in Littleton, MA, so if you need a pit stop on your way to or from New Hampshire or Maine, this a great place to rest your feet, fill your stomach and watch a game.
