Grey's Anatomy: 200th Episode

Last week I was in New York City for work and missed the new episode of Grey's so this week you get a double dose of recap!

Also, congratulations to the whole cast and crew at Grey's, tonight is their 200th episode! For some reason it feels to me like that number should be much higher, but maybe it's because they've made me cry so many times.

Off we go to Seattle!

Last week:

When this episode started I had completely forgotten that the chief was still in critical condition at the hospital. I was so distracted by Meredith, Derek and Callie sleeping in the living room, the interns crashing on the floor of Meredith's old house and Cristina hopping into bed with Alex that I plum forgot the chief was still recovering!

Much of this episode centers around the chief and whether or not he should have a feeding tube. Ultimately, Shane talks him into the tube. Shane's character feels poised for a breakdown, am I right?

At the close of the episode, the chief talks to Meredith about her role as his health proxy and he basically rips her a new one, "I chose you because I knew you could put emotion aside. I knew Bailey was too weak, but you, I thought I could trust. Not to let them operate on me when I was all but dead. Not to bring me back to life where I have to get my meals from a tube. I thought you could, but I was wrong. I chose the wrong person." Oh boy. It's not bad enough the girl had a horrible mom, now you are making her feel bad too?

Across the hospital, Callie, Kepner and the intern whose name I can never remember are about to operate on a woman who whispers her last confession, "I cheated on my husband with his brother." The doctors struggle with whether or not to share this intel. Callie originally pushes hard for the doctors to spill the beans, but when standing face to face with the husband, it hits close to home and she cuts the doctor off before she can release the secret.

At the end of this episode Callie tells Arizona to see other people. Interestingly, Cristina also tells Owen they should see other people. I love them together and this whole separation is making me really sad. Owen just looks at Cristina and says, "I'll try."

Did anyone else notice the beautiful song playing in the background of the last two minutes? It's John Legend's "You & I (Nobody in the World)." I thought it was so perfect for the tone of the final few scenes.

This week:

Tonight our gang got all gussied up for the hospital fundraiser. Avery upped the ante by telling the doctors the department that raises the most money gets 10% of the cut. Cristina fixated on a wealthy CEO, Callie pretended Arizona was dead, Meredith sparkled and Derek juggled.

When Avery took the stage to thank the donors, one of the aerial artists fell from her ribbon and a bone jutted out of her leg. Sick.

Avery brings the ritzy party goers back to the hospital to watch his team operate and closing in on some serious cash. See, young Avery. You can do this without your mommy.

The most interesting development coming out of the gala was a new love interest for Owen, Emma Marling. This role is played by Marguerite Moreau who will always be Connie from The Mighty Ducks to me.

Tonight three men high on heroin were brought into the ER after a car accident. Alex leaves the gala to watch the open heart surgery of one of the junkies. You get this overwhelming feeling Alex knows him. By the end of the episode we learn the junkie is his dad.

This hour Bailey is routinely challenged by the chief and her dying patient with cancer. She gets the brilliant idea to force them to share a room. I hope this guy can snap the chief out his crappy mood. I jumped when he pushed Bailey clear across the room.

Toward the end of the episode Shane is riding high after a successful surgery with Cristina and to celebrate he kisses Stephanie. Avery walks in on this moment and swiftly walks out. Then Stephanie and Avery have a sort of adorable heart to heart and kiss and make up.

I see a new partnership emerging of Cristina and Shane. This could make for some interest rivalries.

Speaking of, in the previews for next week it's Meredith versus Cristina, fighting for the same patient. The dark and twisty sisters are about to take it up a notch.
