Grey's Anatomy: The Truth

Tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy was all about the truth. To start, Meredith wants to know the truth about her genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's. She asked Dr. Bailey to map her genome and Meredith did in fact test positive from more than one of the Alzheimer's genes.

When they leave that meeting, Meredith tells Derek she wants to update their will. Meredith approaches Cristina about being the legal guardian for her children and Cristina says she only wants to be their cool aunt. No surprise there.

Meredith also asks Cristina to make sure her kids don't go through what she went through with Ellis. Cristina quips, "Mer, you had me at lethal injection." Only these dark and twisty sisters could joke about such a thing.

This hour Owen, Arizona and Kepner are working with two doctors from Syria. They are teaching them how to perform surgeries with minimal supplies, as the supply trucks have stopped reaching their area. Each of our gang's specialists - Cristina (cardio), Jackson (plastics), etc. - is asked to show the doctors how to operate in dire circumstances. I got chills when Dr. Darwish told Callie, "Our patients don't have anesthesia."

Also chilling, three of Bailey's patients arrive back to the hospital with post-op infections. At first it seems that the intern Leah is the common denominator, but it turns out she only operated on two of them. Dr. Bailey on other hand, operated on all three. The entire leadership team forces her to sit in a conference room with them while they call the lawyers. Oh boy.

In a surprisingly cold move, this hour Derek tells Ross, his overly eager intern, that he's cut from neuro service. He says, "Brooks is better at this than you. You're going to be a great surgeon. Go figure out where." Ouch!

On a personal level, April decides to tell perfect EMT Matthew that she lied about her virginity. Rather than accept her confession, Matthew is repulsed and calls her a liar. He intended for April to meet his mother, but once he learns she lied, he doesn't allow her back into his room to meet his mom. Sad!

I am hopeful in a future episode that April and Jackson will reconcile. Also, don't you think they are laying the groundwork for Cristina to consider children with Owen? Maybe adoption? It sure seems that way to me.
