Rental Review: Going The Distance

Lately I've been renting a lot of mindless movies. My Netflix queue seems to be stacked with romantic or slapstick comedies. The trend continued today with "Going the Distance."

"Going the Distance" stars Drew Barrymore as struggling writer, Erin, and Justin Long as record label peon, Gerritt. The two meet one night in a bar when Gerritt discovers that Erin holds the high score on the Centipede video game machine that he has been desperately trying to beat all summer.

What follows is an organic, passionate, humor-filled romance. Barrymore and Long have dated on and off in real life so it's no surprise that their chemistry was 100 percent believable and adorable!

Things get complicated when Erin moves across the country to San Francisco (they had both been in New York City) and the duo tries to maintain a long distance relationship.

I want to give a shout out to Christina Applegate who plays Erin's older sister in the film. I loved Applegate in her sitcom "Samantha Who?" which was sadly canceled. Here Applegate plays the same frenetic, over-excited persona that keeps you laughing in every scene.

"Going the Distance" won't be one of the greatest movies you ever see, but it will have you "aww"-ing and laughing out loud.
