Dining Out: Cafe Du Monde

Many cities have a signature food - in Philadelphia it's cheese steak, in Austin it's BBQ, in Chicago it's deep dish pizza and in New Orleans it's beignets at Cafe du Monde.

Cafe du Monde is the most popular tourist destination in NOLA. The cafe is in the heart of the French Quarter and is known for powdered sugar covered beignets and hickory flavored coffee.

Dining Out: Meals From The Heart Cafe

As I've mentioned in my earlier posts about my trip to New Orleans, I really relied on my friends to point us in the right direction when it came to vegetarian friendly restaurants. New Orleans is known for shrimp, crawfish and vegetables cooked in bacon so I was definitely nervous.

On our last day in the city, after a beautiful ride on the St. Charles Street trolley car, we walked into the French Quarter. We hadn't spent any time in this neighborhood yet, so I was excited.

Dining Out: Domenica

I only know one person in New Orleans, and that's the former alumni relations director from my college who over the past 10 years has become an incredible friend. She and her husband moved to New Orleans in June 2011 and when I found out I'd be heading their way for work, I couldn't wait to meet up.

Dining Out: Satsuma Cafe

Before embarking on my trip to New Orleans I asked every single one of my friends who had been to NOLA recently for their recommendations for vegetarian friendly restaurants. One of my friends strongly endorsed Satsuma Cafe. She said, "Though this place is off the beaten path, it is an absolute must for vegetarians." Well, that was enough praise for me!

Dining Out: Adolfo's

This past week I was in New Orleans for work and before I left for the trip I asked all of my friends who had been to the city recently to recommend any restaurants they thought might be vegetarian friendly.

One of my closest friends from growing up recommended an Italian/Creole fusion place on Frenchmen Street called Adolfo's. Frenchmen Street is know for its great, live, jazz music so we were looking forward to dining in that neighborhood.

Dining Out: The Proper Slice

Ever since Naked Pizza closed its doors in Brighton Center I have been looking for a new pizza place. There is Fiorella's Express, Pizza Etc., Little Pizza King and the Brick House, but I don't really love any of them.

When I drove home a few weeks ago I noticed a new pizza place had popped up on Washington Street just two blocks from my front door. The sign read, The Proper Slice.

Last week, during the only snowy night of Boston's winter, my bestie and I headed out to give it a whirl.

Dining Out: Veggie Planet

My mother is a Harvard alum and as kids we used to hang out in Harvard Square all the time. I can't tell you the number of times I have walked by Veggie Planet and thought, "I should really check that place out." Well, last night was the night!

After a busy work week I headed to Harvard Square to meet up with a friend in town from New York City. She had a coupon for Veggie Planet and suggested we go to use it together. Since I had been wanting to try it anyway, off we went.

Menu Preview: All Star Pizza Bar

At this point it's safe to say I am a regular at All Star Sandwich Bar. When I lived in Inman Square I was there every weekend and ever since I moved to the other side of the river, I'll find any excuse to make my way there for lunch or dinner.

Dining Out: Eleven

Monday of this week I was in Pittsburgh, PA for work. I'd never been to Pittsburgh before and wasn't quite sure what to expect. Thankfully, the ladies who work in my company's Pittsburgh office could not have been more excited to show me around their city.

After a great day at the office we packed up and headed out to dinner. We parked right next to the Heinz History Center. Did you know Heinz ketchup is based in Pittsburgh? Yeah, me neither.

Dining Out: Kaya

On Monday morning I woke up before the sun to head to Logan Airport for a 7:00am flight to Pittsburgh, PA. A few hours later when I arrived at my company's office in Pittsburgh my co-workers were ecstatic to show me their city and more importantly, to take me out to eat!

After a productive morning we zipped up our winter coats and headed out onto the snowy streets of Pittsburgh. The office is located in an area called the Strip District and the ladies had selected a lunch place just a few streets away called Kaya.

Dining Out: Max And Leo's Artisan Pizza

Earlier this week an article popped up in my Facebook newsfeed that immediately piqued my interest. The article, written by the Boston Globe, was about a new pizza place that opened in Newton Corner run by twin brothers Max and Leo Candidus, who like me, grew up in Newton.

Dining Out: The Brahmin

Stanhope Street is one of those secret streets in Boston. Tucked away between Stuart Street and Columbus Ave, you might not even notice it if you weren't really looking. The street is situated in a part of Boston where Back Bay melds into the South End. This unexpected location is where you'll find the Brahmin.
