Academy Awards 2020: Viewing Party

I wait all year for Oscar Night. While I typically host viewing parties for the Emmy Awards in September and the Golden Globe Awards in January, there is something different about celebrating the Academy Awards. The glamour, the anticipation, watching people's lives change right before your eyes - it's magical.

I woke up Sunday morning and I was giddy. I couldn't wait to shop and then come home to set up.

I started with the front door. For all the parties I like to put something on the glass that my guests will see as soon as they ring the bell. This year it was an envelope that said, "And the winner is . . . "

I sprinkled star-shaped glitter all over the entry way table and arranged three vases of red roses.

These are mini roses, which I found at Trader Joe's. They have an incredible flower selection and it's very fairly priced.

I've had these gold mercury glass vases forever. They add instant pizazz.

The living room is where all the watching (and judging) happens!

On the ottoman, I placed gold, polka dot coasters, two kinds of candy and two small vases of white hydrangeas.

Can we talk about these napkins? So perfect!

This popcorn garland is from TJ Maxx. It simple, but so festive.

The dining room, a.k.a. snack central, got a bit of a makeover, starting with this movie-themed table cloth.

I used more white hydrangeas in these red, plastic containers to mimic the look of movie theater popcorn.

The sideboard doubled as the bar area.

I've had this "Let's party!" pitcher from Home Goods for years and I'm always thrilled to put it out.

Just beyond the H20, I had prosecco. I love this Chloe label. It looks like the bottle is wearing a tux!

As a fun garnish, I put out two kinds of sugar cubes, one strawberry and one raspberry. You drop these into your flute to give the bubbly an extra bit of sweetness.

These were a birthday gift from a friend back in September, and I knew right away I wanted to save them for Oscar Night.

I failed to take a picture of our incredible snack spread (I was too busy noshing), but the entire feast came from Trader Joe's. Three kinds of dips, three kinds of chips / crackers and three kinds of cheese.

For dinner, my friend made us parmesan cheese bowls, which we stuffed with salad.

Here's my masterpiece!

Oscar Party 2020

If you like ordering soup in a bread bowl, you would love this.

For dessert, we had movie candy, of course, but we also enjoyed macarons from Praline in Belmont, MA. They were light, which was just what we needed after everything else we'd been eating!

Now, if you've been following along here on Pop.Bop.Shop. for a while, you know I always add some extra special touches to my bathroom for any party.

This time, I added a gray and gold soap dispenser, which is from Flying Tiger in New York City. I also love these very regal napkins, which I placed on the counter as hand towels.

On the back of the toilet, I created a throne for Oscar!

He is flanked by two vases of ranunculus and he's resting on a layer of red gems. I got the stones at Party City. They have them in every color you can imagine.

I had such a great time watching the show with my usual crew. We've been doing this together for years and years and we always look forward to it.

The ladies headed out just before Laura Dern won, and we texted the rest of the night from our respective couches.

And just like that, awards season 2020 is over. I have some serious catching up to do. I need to see Parasite, 1917 and Jojo Rabbit.
