I don't know about you, but I am still basking in the glow of Oprah's superstar moment during the Golden Globes. I teared up during her speech and I thought I was just being a sap, but when I woke up Monday morning and saw my Facebook newsfeed completely taken over with posts about her inspirational words, I knew we had all just witnessed something pivotal.
On Sunday night I watched the broadcast with three of my best gal pals. We've been squeezing onto the couch together for many, many years and I always look forward to our viewing parties.
I love decorating for the occasion, especially for the Golden Globes because it's the first awards show of the season. Whenever I begin my master plan, I always start with the front door. I want my friends to feel immediately excited when they arrive. This year I kept it simple - just three gold stars. I found these for super cheap at Party City.
In the entryway, I turned my side table into an instant sugar rush!
These are cocktail lollipops in three flavors: Champagne, Moscow Mule and Champagne with strawberries.
I discovered these on my first trip to HomeSense in Framingham. They were at the register and I scrambled to buy as many different flavors as I could. The sales girl ringing me up even came out from behind the counter to help me look for additional varieties.
Look at the strawberries pressed right in there.
I placed the lollipops in water glasses. I had filled the bottom of each glass with red jewels.
These were another Party City find. What I love about shopping there is they have multiple aisles organized by color. I mostly hang out in the red and gold sections.
Moving into the living room, I added a bit of flair to the ottoman and the fireplace mantel.
The tray on the ottoman is usually snack central and this party was no exception.
I found these chic coasters at the T.J. Maxx in Assembly Row in Somerville. They remind me of the original Daily Candy fashion illustrations.
For the entire month of November, my cousin and I were focused on emptying out my grandmother's townhouse in Jamaica Plain, which she had decided to sell. She lives in Florida now, so it was up to us to get the place ready for closing. One of the treasures I was able to keep from the house was these monogrammed napkins with her initials - Harriet Lila Goldman. I just love them.
For candy, I mostly stayed in the chocolate family - Lindt truffles, chocolate covered almonds and yogurt covered pretzels.
These chocolate covered almonds look like martini olives and it cracks me up! My mom gifted me these, which are from Sugarfina (home of the Champagne gummi bears).
From the fireplace mantel I hung this popcorn garland. This was another HomeSense find.
In the dining room I put down a gold table cloth, topped with three vases of red roses. Fresh flowers make any celebration feel instantly more special.
This "Let's Party" pitcher was a major score at HomeGoods last year and I can't stop using it.
These gold confetti water glasses were the very first things I put in my cart on my inaugural trip to HomeSense.
As the girls started arriving, it was time to put out the appetizers. In a dream world, I would only ever eat appetizers and desserts. I take both of those courses very seriously.
In addition to the usual suspects (veggies, cheese, crackers), I also had a potpourri of spreads: Maine maple Champagne mustard, confit of figs and balsamic vinegar, bruschetta of eggplant and red pepper and hot pepper jelly from Peg's Preserves (my favorite). I was not messing around!
We noshed while judging the first round of gowns on the red carpet.
About an hour into viewing, it was time for the main event. For every one of these gatherings, my friend Stephanie (also known as Chef Steph) makes the entree. This time it was cacio e pepe risotto.
24 hours later, my kitchen still smells of this heavenly meal.
It took us about another hour to be ready for more food, but once we were, it was time for the hot fudge sundae bar.
As I was menu planning, it struck me that the lids of Halo Top ice cream are gold. How perfect for the Golden Globes!
We had three flavors: vanilla bean, birthday cake and chocolate almond crunch.
To go with the ice cream, we had Stonewall Kitchen's dark chocolate sea salt caramel sauce, which is sinfully rich. #SorryNotSorry
Over the course of the evening, if anyone needed to visit the ladies room, I spruced it up in there too.
I used to be a hydrangea hater, but I've recently come around. Their fullness is just so lush.
I was going for a farmer's market feel here with the pails. These are gold and from the $1 section at the front of the Watertown Target store.
I couldn't use just any soap dish, so I swapped my usual one for this red and gold tray. I placed into it a soap I found at the Crompton Collective. I actually bought four different scents because they all smelled so amazing. Appropriately, this one is called Peppermint Frost. Hello, record-breaking cold in Boston.
The girls made it until about 9:30pm before the exhaustion and Sunday night dread started to creep in.
We are all already looking forward to the Oscars which are on Sunday, March 4.
