The Galler family headed to Brooklyn, NY this weekend to attend a wedding. My brother-in-law's older brother was getting hitched, and we were all invited to celebrate.
The wedding took place at the DUMBO Lofts, a space directly below the Manhattan Bridge. The location was outrageously cool and unique.
The next morning, my brother-in-law's parents hosted the most beautiful brunch at Atrium DUMBO, which is situated right in between the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge.
We took an Uber from our Airbnb in Carroll Gardens and as soon as we hopped out, I already knew I would love this place. The robin's egg blue patio chairs got me!
When we stepped inside, I gasped when I noticed the living plant wall. It reminded me of the gorgeous one at Casa B in Union Square in Somerville, MA.
The host led us up a flight of stairs to the private event space, which looks down on the whole dining room and the open kitchen.
Our hosts for the morning, the groom's parents, ordered the most stunning floral arrangements and gifted each person a box of Jacques Torres chocolate (I can spot that signature orange anywhere) with a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge on the front.
As guests arrived, the wait staff took cocktail orders. Surprise, surprise, I ordered a Bloody Mary.
This Bloody was spicy (just the way I like it) and I quickly gobbled up the pickle and olive garnishes.
The menu for the morning was at each place setting, which was such a lovely touch.
The fruit bowl arrived first and it was amazingly fresh. It was a mix of raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, pineapple and watermelon.
For the main course, both my father and I selected the eggs florentine. Our poached eggs arrived on top of lightly toasted English muffins and a smattering of spinach, which was then coated in Hollandaise sauce. I feel full just typing that.
The eggs were cooked perfectly. We both cleaned our plates. Our one complaint was that the eggs on their own weren't really enough food. We were both longing for a side of crispy home fries with ketchup.
My mother selected the black sea bass with summer squash, myer lemon and basil. After a few bites she said, "This is very light and flavorful. The vegetables have just the right level of crunch."
For the third and final course, each table was delivered a few baskets of brioche doughnuts with butterscotch sauce for dipping.
Let's be honest, these doughnuts were nothing more than a vehicle to eat as much butterscotch as possible. I am normally a hot fudge girl, so I forgot how decadent it is!
If you're not into butterscotch, the doughnuts themselves were actually quite light and not at all greasy (as they sometimes can be).
After a round of very moving speeches and toasts, we left the brunch with full hearts and full bellies.
Thanks to Atrium DUMBO's amazing location, we were able to walk right to the waterfront and all through Brooklyn Bridge Park, winding down to Jane's Carousel, by St. Ann's Warehouse and all the way to the most incredible, unobstructed view of the Statue of Liberty. It's easy to see why people fall in love with Brooklyn.
If you get the chance to explore DUMBO on your next New York City trip, it was one of my favorite experiences.
