Grey's Anatomy: Dance It Out

Heading into last night's Grey's Anatomy season finale, I was bracing for pain. Shonda Rhimes has been known to go out with a bang (sometimes literally). Apparently the entertainment team at Pop Sugar was feeling the same way I was and ranked the 10 season finales from least to most painful.

The episode picked up right where we left off last week, with Keith (a patient) pinned beneath a car outside the ER doors. Meredith, Kepner, Pierce and Hunt are all working to get him out and into surgery.

The whole time Meredith was holding Keith's hand and comforting him I kept thinking, "How can she be so calm after losing her own husband?" I realize last week's episode was supposed to imply that a year had gone by since Derek's death, but still.

To keep Keith motivated and powering through, Meredith brings out his newborn son so he can see him and get a jolt of strength to fight his current condition. Eventually he is released from the car and brought into surgery.

Towards the end of the episode, Keith and his girlfriend Joan are both out of the woods and brought into the same hospital room, side by side. I was so worried Shonda was going to kill off both of them!

Aside from the patient story, there is drama between Catherine Avery and the Chief. They fight so much Catherine gives the ring back.

Eventually they make up and decide to have the wedding in the hospital's chapel, followed by a reception at Meredith and Derek's dream house.  At the reception, the Chief tells Dr. Bailey he wants her to be the next chief of surgery, but she'll have to go up against an outside candidate. Oh, I pity that guy (or girl).

Also at the party, Pierce admits that her parents are getting divorced. It was hard to pretend to care about that, since we've never met them.

Amelia sneaks upstairs during the party to listen to a voicemail from Derek. Meredith had given her the cell phone containing his last message. I probably should have cried at the sound of his voice, but I didn't.

In one final plot development, Kepner wants to go abroad again and Avery says if she does, "I don't think I can be here when you come back." After Kepner left another guy at the altar to be with Avery, I really hope they work it out.

One last observation, is the actress who plays Jo pregnant in real life? They never show her body below the chest.

Before we close the door on this season of Grey's, I have to ask, would you all like to continue to read recaps of the show? I know many people stopped watching after we lost Derek, so if you aren't interested in continuing to see these, just say the word. Or, if you love them and want to keep reading and commenting, please let me know.
