The 2014 Super Bowl: Party Time

The Super Bowl is one of my favorite days of the entire year. Though I'm not a regular season football fan, there is something about getting together with all your friends, piling into someone's living room and stuffing your face that I just love.

When I first graduated from college I hosted a Super Bowl party that February and continued to do so for the next four years. For the last two years, I've had to work (I had clients with ads in the game) and this year I was finally given back my freedom and able to reinstate the annual party!

When I thought there was a chance the Patriots might wind up in the big game I was envisioning a red, white and blue theme for the party, but once they lost, I had to rethink my decor strategy.

I decided to go with the traditional green and brown, but to keep the decorations fairly simple, as I didn't want it to feel too gimmicky.

In the living room I added a few items to the tray on the ottoman and an extra special touch to the mantel.

In front of the couch I had a stack of plates for all the food that would come later, and a tray I've had since that very first party in 2007.

I bought a new candy bowl this year, I just couldn't resist the yellow goal posts!

On the mantel I hung three bling bling football necklaces, which were anchored by Miller Lite bottles. This was such a simple and cheap decor idea and it was my favorite touch!

That's my kind of football.

From the living room couch you could see the field-covered dining room table.

I found this table cloth at Party City and I love that it has the yard lines.

I stayed with the green theme here, using green paper plates and green cups for the drinks.

To match the table cloth, I also hung a string of NFL flags over the arch between the dining room and living room. If only I could have found yellow flags like they throw in real games.

What isn't pictured here is the insane amount of amazing food my friends made: macaroni and cheese, pizza, wings, cinnamon buns and s'mores brownies. Not to mention all the chips, dips and candy we had on the coffee table, you know, for in between all that other food.

Though I couldn't care less who won, Denver or Seattle, I was anxiously awaiting the half time show from Bruno Mars, who I absolutely adore.

I thought it was awesome they opened with him playing the drums and then he transitioned into swag mode with his band. When I saw him in concert a few years ago I loved that he and his band all do the same choreography, which is always very bouncy and high energy.

"Treasure" is one of my favorite Bruno songs (my sister and I sing it to each other constantly) and I was so happy he included that on the set list.

In case you missed it:

My friends and I had a great time watching the game, scrutinizing the commercials and of course, pigging out.

What did you do for Super Bowl Sunday?
