Read: Paris My Sweet

One of the things I love most about summer is beach reading. Well, to be fair, reading outside. Whether it's on the beach, by the pool, on the porch or laying in the yard, there is something about summertime that gives you permission to read absolute trash.

My first book of the summer was "Paris My Sweet" by Amy Thomas. The book is a true account of Amy's move from New York City to Paris and the sweets she ate along the way.

I was hoping for page after page of mouth watering descriptions of rich, elegant, French desserts. Instead what I got was a diary of someone's transition to living abroad, sprinkled with pastry.

Though the book is very much presented as a sugar rush through Paris, it is actually Thomas' true confessions about what it was like to move from the States the France, to learn a new language, to adjust to a new set of coworkers, to deal with her best friend get engaged across the world and then sometimes the desserts she ate to feel better.

Overall, I was disappointed. The book wasn't the deep dive into Paris patisseries that I had hoped for and honestly, the writing was poor.

Thankfully, I have moved onto a fantastic new book called "Instructions For A Heatwave" by Maggie O'Farrell. I can't wait to tell you all about it. After I finish, I am moving onto Curtis Steinfeld's "Sisterland."

What have you read this summer that I should add to my list?
