Movie Musings: The Vow

Earlier this week I went to the Somerville Theater in Davis Square to see "The Vow." I can sum up the reason I was interested in this film in two words: Channing. Tatum.

There are good looking people and then there's Channing Tatum. I first fell in love with him in the dance movie "Step Up" and still to this day cannot see him on screen without blushing. Yup, guilty.

In this particular movie Tatum plays Leo, the loving, devoted husband to a woman who loses her memory in a car accident and can't remember a single moment they spent together. Who could forget this?

Leo's wife Claire is played by Rachel McAdams who was perfectly cast in this role. She conveys both her character's pre-accident and post-accident personalities with sincerity and is as stunningly beautiful as ever. Even in the snow, in a winter coat and a wool hat she looks luminous.

The chemistry between Tatum and McAdams was electric. The scene where we spy on their first date was so adorable I could feel myself grinning.

The cuteness meter spiked to an all time high during their wedding scene. They snuck into the Art Institute of Chicago and got married guerilla style in one of the galleries. They were chased out by security and shared their first kiss under the Bean in downtown Chicago. Precious!

Channing Tatum fans were treated to an extra dose of hotness when we got a 100 percent naked shot of him from behind. Wow is all I have to say about that.

Fans of the TV show "Felicity" will be happy to know the character Ben (played by Scott Speedman) has a cameo in the film as Claire's ex-fiance. He is every bit as handsome as he was when we watched the show in high school.

Though the movie definitely had some high points, I was really disappointed in the ending. It felt like the story line just stopped. The final shot of the film is a photo of the couple who inspired the movie (it's based on a true story). Though the update about their real life (which I don't want to give away) gave them film a smidge more resolution, it still wasn't enough for me.

I'd save your pennies and wait for this to hit Netflix or Red Box.
