Dining Out: LTK

After graduating college in May 2006, I began working at Fidelity Investments in the Seaport district. At the time, that neighborhood was nothing more than the three World Trade Center buildings, the Seaport Hotel, the Bank of America Pavilion and one fabulous restaurant, the Legal Test Kitchen. Since then the neighborhood has welcomed the Renaissance Hotel, Morton's Steakhouse, Atlantic Beer Garden, Whiskey Priest, Jerry Remy's, Del Friscos, Temazcal, Legal Seafood, Tamo Bar at the Seaport Hotel and more. Despite all of the new additions, the Legal Test Kitchen, better known as LTK, is still my favorite.

Tonight I met my Wheaton College roommate for dinner at LTK at 7:00pm. We had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table and were greeted by a friendly bartender. My roomie was looking for a full bodied Chardonnay and the bartender informed her she didn't have one by the glass, but she could have half a bottle. My roomie looked at me and I nodded with approval. Ten seconds later the waitress delivered a mini bottle! How fun is this?

When our table was ready we were seated in a cozy booth on the right side of the restaurant. Our waitress brought over a plate of bread with garlic white bean dip. The rolls were warm and we made the dip completely disappear.

We had both been to LTK before and love their steamed edamame appetizer. We squealed with delight when it arrived. Not only are the edamame sprinkled with salt, but they are still in their pods, which makes them super fun to eat!

For dinner I ordered the Caesar salad. LTK is part of the Legal Seafood chain and no one does a better Caesar.

My roomie ordered the scallops which came with two sides and your choice of sauce. She went with brown rice, green beans and the lemon caper sauce. I was shocked what a generous portion it was and she said the scallops were divine. Apparently she'd been dreaming of this exact dish all day.

To round out the meal we took a hard look at the dessert menu. LTK has three full sized desserts and three "just enough" desserts, which are described as "just a few bites." We were tempted by a few different things but decided to split the brownie sundae.

The sundae arrived with a dense brownie on the bottom, a baseball sized scoop of vanilla ice cream and then hot fudge drizzled across the top. Oh man. This was total bliss.

I love LTK for a plethora of reasons. First, the servers are always incredibly friendly and polite. Second, the food is fresh, delicious and arrives quickly. Last, in the nice weather they have a huge outdoor patio which lets you take full advantage of the breeze off of Boston Harbor and sometimes, if you're lucky, the sound of a concert up the street.
