Tonight I went with a group of friends to see Sara Bareilles perform at the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street. We purchased our tickets back in August and until about ten days ago I hadn't really been listening to her newest album. When I realized the show was fast approaching I put the CD in my car and listened to that exclusively for the days leading up to the performance.
Having been to several shows at the House of Blues in the last few months I've come to learn that the headlining act never comes on before 9:30pm. With that in mind, we arrived at around 8:45pm and found a spot on the left side of the stage.
Sara came out and was absolutely luminous! She was wearing navy pants and a dark gray top with a multi-strand necklace. She is incredibly beautiful, has a vibrant energy and an inspiring voice. Her set was gorgeous and featured lights that looked like guitar necks, which was unique and visually stunning.
She opened the show with a song off her first album called "Vegas". See below:
Next she sang my favorite song off her new album "Uncharted." I listen to that song every morning on my drive into work as the very first tune I play to start the day. Check it out:
Sara also played a song from the new album called "Gonna Get Over You." This is an up beat, jazzy number and Sara tapped her feet and danced the entire time. I love that she stands at the piano instead of sits. Its as if she's too excited to sit still. Take a look:
The tempo slowed a bit when Sara played a more emotional song, "Basket Case." She also switched from the piano to guitar. Yes, the girl has many musical talents. See for yourself:
One of the friends I went with tonight wanted to hear one song above all the rest, a song from the new album called "Let the Rain" and she got her wish! Watch here:
She also performed many fan favorites including "Love Song", "King of Anything" and "Gravity."
Though Sara performed for nearly 90 minutes it felt like time flew by! I was having such a great time watching her rock out. She had such an infectious energy and she spoke to the crowd like we'd all been best friends for years. She sang and danced around the stage with such zest! I felt like even if she was in her room alone, she would probably approach every song with the same reckless abandon.
In addition to her phenomenal musical performance, Sara also wow-ed me with her humility. She continually thanked the crowd for their support of her career, for their support of live music in general, and she introduced and then thanked her band three times! At the close of the show they all took one, group bow together. Given her success, it would be easy to become a diva, but she is so admirably down to earth.
If you don't already own Sara's new album "Kaleidoscope Heart" you need to rectify that immediately. If you can see her on this tour you will be truly inspired, amazed and uplifted by her spirit and unparalleled talent.
