Dining Out: Good Luck

While I was in Rochester, NY this weekend I attended a farewell dinner for a friend who was leaving the city to begin medical school. Her last meal of choice was Good Luck, a hip restaurant on Anderson Ave.

Good Luck feels like a Manhattan dining hot spot (only no Manhattan restaurant has this much space). The restaurant has an industrial feel, with huge wooden columns and iron details. The modern decor is warmed with beautiful lighting and charming accents on the tables including fresh flowers, antique serving pieces and glass jars for ice cold water.

We began the night with drinks at the bar and I tried the Inamartina cocktail which is vodka, St. Germain, strawberries, rosewater and grapefruit bitters. It was fruity, refreshing and strong! All the drinks come served on an adorable coaster which is a picture of rabbit, with a dotted line across its foot that reads "Make your own luck."

When all the girls arrived we were seated a cozy corner table. The food at Good Luck is meant to be shared so they encourage you to order one plate more than the number of people you have. So if you have six people at your table, you order seven plates.

We tried: the heirloom tomato salad, the green and yellow bean salad, the eggplant with ricotta, pesto and tomato sauce, the goat cheese gnocchi, the margherita pizza and the burger and fries.

The heirloom tomato salad had juicy red and yellow tomatoes over perfectly toasted crostini. The green and yellow bean salad was dressed in a yummy vinaigrette. The margherita pizza was the best I have ever had. It had a little extra zest to it that made it addicting, plus parmesan sprinkled across the crust. I could have eaten three more!

The eggplant dish was also delicious, but the most impressive item was the Good Luck signature burger. The burger is cut into four and served with french fries and a custom made ketchup of tomato, mayo and brandy. These were some of the most incredible french fries I have ever tasted. They literally flew off the cutting board.

The drinks, food and atmosphere at Good Luck are nothing short of sublime. Its a highly urban restaurant nestled into a quiet block. Its the perfect location for a celebratory night out.

Find a penny, pick it up, bring all of your friends to Good Luck!
