Gossip Girl: Ghosts of Christmas Bass

This week on Gossip Girl for the second week in a row a song that I am currently obsessed with was featured! Last week it was Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say" and this week it was Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind." While the use of the song this week was not nearly as epic as last, I still bobbed my head to every measure.

In this week's episode Serena has run away with Tripp, who is now dressed like a character from Newsies. Tripp has magically lost any semblance of a back bone and has become puddy in Maureen's scheming hands. So much so that after getting into a car accident with Serena, he simply calls 911 and walks away. WALKS AWAY. And we're done with you, Tripp. We wish you a painful demise.

With Tripp out of the picture, handsome Nate could come to the rescue! Which he does and kicks off his rise to hero fame by punching Tripp right in the face! Bravo, Nathaniel! Bravo! I must say, a Serena-Nate hook up is looking pretty good right about now.

Speaking of hook ups, apparently Lily was doing exactly that with Serena's dad. At least that's what his letter leads us to believe (not that we've actually seen it). Rufus gets wind of this and wanders straight into the open arms of the scorned women from the co-op board. God, I love New York City.

This episode Dan decides to confess his love to Vanessa (or at least the love Olivia and Vanessa's mom tricked him into believing he feels) and she just shrugged it off. Well played, V.

Jenny and Eric call a truce, but what no one knows is Little J is working alongside the Belgian in one sleazy drug deal after another. This cannot end well.

The best story line of the night revolved around my favorite Upper East Sider, Chuck. On the anniversary of Bart Bass' death, Chuck finds himself hallucinating images of his father and pushing Blair away as a result.

Blair remains persistent and winds up having an incredibly sweet moment with Chuck on the floor of the hospital hallway outside of Serena's room that nearly brought me to tears.

The episode closes with Chuck visiting his father's grave only to find who he thinks is his mother standing over the tombstone. She vanishes, but a locket is left behind. In previews for the next episode it seems Chuck takes the locket, which Blair finds and leads to many questions. Is Chuck's mother alive? Was he just hallucinating again?

While it is unclear when Gossip Girl will return (the previews give no indication) the writers have set up many promising story lines!
