Pop.Bop.Shop. Turns 11

Today, January 4, 2020, marks 11 years of Pop.Bop.Shop. That means, at 35 years old, I’ve been blogging for nearly 1/3 of my life!

Every year, on this anniversary, I like to go back and read my very first post. I’m in awe of how closely I’ve stayed to my original goal to make Pop.Bop.Shop. a place for fans of pop culture, dining out, travel and supporting local / independent businesses.

Of course things have changed shape over the years. In the beginning, I was doing weekly recaps of some of my favorite TV shows - The City, Gossip Girl, 90210, The Bachelor. I also used to share the best of New York Fashion Week, showcasing photos of the looks I was coveting most from the runway shows.

When I traveled for work, I would bring you with me inside every new hotel room. As I began to travel more for fun, I chronicled those stays (and views!) too.

Eventually, I added in more entertaining ideas, going all out for my Golden Globes, Oscars and Emmy viewing parties.

In 2015, I started publishing my annual list of New Year’s resolutions, sharing quarterly updates on my progress. I was blown away by the support from this community - offering suggestions, volunteering to join me on adventures and cheering me on as I tackled my list.

In 2019, when I resolved to read 24 books for the year, I shared the most book / reading content I ever have before, and you responded enthusiastically by sharing your own thoughts on books you’d read, as well as ones you urged me to add to my pile.

This year, in 2020, things are going to slow down here on the blog. The truth is that more people are engaging with the content I share on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram than they are here on the website. It’s undeniable that Instagram is queen and I’m adapting with the times.

I plan to share a lot more via Instagram, particularly Instagram Stories. Please join me, @mollygaller, and like, comment and DM. I always love hearing from you and I am thrilled to answer any questions!

You can also connect with me on Goodreads, where I am tracking everything I’m reading and constantly adding titles to my “to-read” list.

Do not worry, there will still be blog posts! There will just be less of them. Each post takes an incredible amount of time - drafting, proofreading, adding links, and of course, shooting, editing and uploading photos.

If there are certain topics or categories of posts you’d most like me to continue, please let me know by leaving a comment below or emailing me at molly@popbopshopblog.com. Do you like the resolutions best? The restaurant reviews? The awards show party set ups? Sound off so I can keep creating the type of content you love most.

I am so grateful for this community. Over the past 11 years, I have shared my discoveries, meals, travels, reading lists, TV and movie obsessions, tablescapes, best and worst dressed lists, New Year’s resolutions and more, and you’ve always been there to listen, offer advice, come with me to explore new places and encourage me to keep going. The magic of Pop.Bop.Shop. is you.

As we head into this new year, I can’t help but think about where I was on this day last year. One of my best friends had just sent me a gift to celebrate the blog's 10th anniversary. It was a necklace with the word “resolute” etched into the pendant. She enclosed with it the definition of the word, “Resolute (adjective) - admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering.” May we all be resolute in 2020!
