I get my love of entertaining from my mother. She's an incredible hostess and her favorite occasion is Thanksgiving. Every year, I look forward to seeing what new decor surprises she'll reveal. This year, I had the pleasure of setting the table with her on Turkey Day.
She invited our friends and family for 4:00pm, to begin the celebration with a round of appetizers. My parents have a very large coffee table in their living room, which always serves as snack central.
These round placemats are from Home Goods, where you can find them in just about every color. I have red ones I used during awards season.
How cute are these turkey napkins?
I was honored my mom wanted to use a set of appetizer plates I had gifted her a few years ago. These are the ideal size for loading up on crackers and cheese.
When my aunt arrived at 4:00pm, she unpacked a bunch of delicious trays, including this tower of endive and olives.
I found these turkey picks by Meri Meri at Greentail Table, my favorite shop in Newton, MA.
Over the years we've discovered that the little kids in the family aren't as entertained by the appetizer round as they are at the table, so my mom always sets up a little craft corner. This year, the kiddos were able to decorate Thanksgiving glasses for the grownups to wear.
My five-year-old cousin loved coloring in the feathers and we wore her creations proudly!
On that same table my mom added a different set of napkins and a basket of small pumpkins and gourds.
The giant pumpkins feel out of place in tropical Miami, but you can get away with these tiny ones.
Now for the main event - the table!
My mom has had this orange tablecloth for a few years and she was feeling a bit disappointed about reusing it. To jazz it up, she put a new runner down the center.
The runner was topped with a mix of fall-themed decor and flowers.
I'm obsessed with these glass pumpkins. I may have to get some for myself for my fireplace mantel.
My mom snipped flowers to the exact height of these tiny red vases to look like feathers. She wants you to believe they are turkeys (they're roosters).
Each year we hand write place cards for all of our guests. This year, the turkey designs were especially adorable!
For my entire life, we have always gone around the table and said what each of us are thankful for. Since every year the group shares the same two things (being all together and my dad's cooking), we decided to mix it up and put a popper at each person's seat.
These are also Meri Meri, and also from Greentail Table. Inside each popper was a paper crown (which everyone, young and old, put on right away), a knock knock joke (all Thanksgiving puns) and a festive pin (either a leaf or an acorn).
An excellent aunt, my mom set a special place for my little cousin, giving her a plastic cup and plate (which she wound up piling high with just two things - turkey and cranberry sauce).
Though we were hanging out mostly in the living room and dining room, my mom also decorated the guest bathroom.
She added turkey hand towels and the pumpkin pie Yankee Candle.
For a pop of color, she added a small bud vase of orange roses and gerber daisies.
Even though no one was sitting in the den, just in case, she arranged a vase of blooms in there too, right in front of our favorite family photo from Thanksgiving a few years ago.
I meant to snap photos of the amazing feast my dad prepared and the incredible dessert spread we had hours later, but a fork and knife quickly replaced my phone and camera in my hands.
