A few years ago, while working for an advertising agency, General Motors was one of my clients. I used to travel back and forth to Detroit, MI regularly and really came to love the city. On one of my visits I was able to attend the grand opening of the first Shinola store in Detroit. You can see my Instagram photos from the opening celebration here, here, here and here.
When I walked through the Detroit store my jaw was hanging open. The whole space was just gorgeous - the display cases, the furniture, the bicycles hanging from the ceiling, the music being played through the speakers - it was all so perfectly thoughtful and true to the brand.
So imagine my sheer delight when I learned that Shinola was coming to Boston! The store opened on Tuesday, November 1st and is located in the Shops at the Prudential Center.
Just like the Detroit store, the new Shinola in Boston is stunning.
Shinola is best known for their watches. The Birdy is my favorite style, with the round clock and the thin band. I am torn between the rose gold and the mother of pearl (which is sapphire blue, like my birthstone).
They also make sophisticated leather goods - everything from bags to notebooks. I am lusting after the Mini Shopper Tote in blush. The iPad and journal cover would also make a great holiday gift. You can even get it monogrammed!
In addition to watches and leather goods, Shinola also makes bicycles. I know that may seem like an unlikely trio, but all three product lines are focused on the same things - attention to detail and high quality craftsmanship.
I have wanted this pink (they call it mauve) Runwell bicycle since I first laid eyes on it in Detroit! I haven't ridden a bike since high school, but it would make a lovely decor item in my house, no?
The best part of shopping at Shinola is that the majority of what they design and create is made right here in the United States. You can read about their incredible commitment to job creation here. If you're looking to give a holiday gift you can feel great about, this is it.
