Grey's Anatomy: Your Brother Is Your Sister

Thanks to all those who commented, emailed and tweeted last week to help me get to the bottom of the "mute mystery." It turns out several of you also had audio problems with the first few minutes of last week's episode.

This week, our Seattle Grace gang was joined by a new face, Ben's brother Kurt. When we first meet him, he is with Ben and Bailey, scattering their father's ashes in the woods where they used to camp. Suddenly, Kurt complains of feeling hot and muggy, then faints, causing him to tumble down the hill.

When Kurt arrives to the hospital, Meredith takes his case and immediately notices his high level of estrogen. Without even having to say it out loud, they share an unspoken moment where Kurt reveals he is transitioning.

Before Kurt can talk to Ben, he starts to cough up blood. They rush him to the OR to remove his spleen.

Unaware of what's really happening, Ben badgers Bailey to fill him in. She tries to find the right words and winds up saying, "Your brother is becoming your sister."

Ben does not have a positive reaction at all, and when he confronts Kurt (post-surgery), Kurt asks, "I'm tired of pretending. I just want to be happy with who I am. Can you understand that?"

"Grey's Anatomy" has joined several other shows in pursuing transgender story lines. First it was Laverne Cox in "Orange is the New Black" and more recently, Jeffrey Tambor in "Transparent."

Across the hospital, a girl was brought in for fainting in the middle of a marriage proposal. Turns out, she faints anytime she doesn't like the way a conversation is going with her boyfriend. I just about died when she confessed, "He likes to pet me."

Keeping with the theme of pretending, Meredith admits to both Pierce and Alex that instead of going to visit Derek, she holed up in an airport hotel room for three days. She confides in Alex, "I don't want to leave Derek, but I definitely do not want to be with him right now." Oh boy. On the rocks again.

Conversely, Alex responds to seeing Jo in the hallway and proclaims, "I'm going to marry that girl." It would be nice to see a wedding where someone didn't walk out (Cristina, Kepner).

Throughout the episode, Callie seemed obsessed with the idea of getting her groove back. In the closing scene of the episode, she's all alone at a bar, ripping shots, when she decides to ask a very gorgeous man to dance. Is she back to men now?

At the close of last week's episode, Hunt and Amelia held hands in the hospital chapel and it seemed like foreshadowing to a romance. Tonight, Amelia showed up at Hunt's Airstream in the woods and they wound up sharing their first kiss. I have no interest in these two as a couple. Do you?

In preview's for next week, Amelia turns up the heat on her quest to eliminate Dr. Herman's tumor. I just hope she doesn't kill her. Herman and Robbins were finally getting close.
