Dining Out: O Face Doughnuts

Any business that decides on #ShowUsYourOFace as their official hashtag, is one I can get behind.

While in Las Vegas for work two weeks ago, I took the advice of several local friends and carved out a morning to have breakfast at the newly opened O Face Doughnuts in Downtown Las Vegas.

When you enter the bakery, the counter is covered in candy colored doughnut boxes.

The menu is broken out into two sections - doughnuts you can eat "in hand" and doughnuts that require a "fork & knife."

Doughnuts that require cutlery? This is serious.

The kitchen is open to the whole shop and you can watch the team bake as you wait in line. You can also witness the cart filling up with freshly baked doughnuts and fantasize about how to wheel the whole thing back to your hotel room.

The line was a few people deep when we got there and when those folks finally cleared, we could press our faces right up to the glass to check out the goods.

Are you drooling? I was.

Since there were three of us sharing, we decide to try a few different flavors. We started with a doughnut topped with creme fraiche glaze and sprinkled with coconut.

I absolutely love coconut and if you do too, this flavor is a must.

Next up, the blackberry and thyme doughnut. As you all know, I really can't stand fruit, but weirdly, this was my favorite doughnut! Maybe it was the combination of the fluffy cake, glazed with sugar and then stuffed with cool, tart berry jam that really converted me.

I was so busy devouring this one that I forgot to take a picture once we cut into it! I took one bite and my eyes rolled into the back of my head. There is photographic evidence.

Our final two choices were supremely decadent - the s'mores and the chocolate potato chip.

The s'mores doughnut was chocolate cake, stuffed with chocolate ganache, topped with marshmallow and then sprinkled with graham cracker crumbs.

The cake of this particular doughnut was too firm and dry. Even if you got a bite with the chocolate ganache filling, the cake was still too dry.

For our final treat, I have to ask, how can you go wrong with potato chips as a garnish?

The best part of this doughnut, which you can't even see, is that it's filled with peanut butter! This is the ultimate junk food snack, combining both sweet and salty into one mega confection.

In addition to the awesome and wacky doughnut flavors, the decor in the space is also fun and quirky (Don't be scared by the skeleton, it was four days before Halloween).

I love the stools made from recycled materials.

The best part, hands down, is the wallpaper in the bathroom.

Where do you find coffee and doughnut wallpaper? Is there a catalog that sells vintage, food-themed wallpaper? This blew my mind.

If you can't get enough O Face, on the way out you can purchase a hat or a t-shirt with the signature O Face cartoon on it. I had to summon every ounce of self control not to buy the navy blue t-shirt with the aqua blue doughnut face.

If you ever find yourself in Downtown Las Vegas, O Face Doughnuts is an absolute must. Aside from the doughnuts, they make fantastic cold pressed coffee and they have an adorable patio out back if you prefer to nosh in the sun.
