The Mindy Project: The Suitcase

When I woke up Tuesday morning I was depressed that my birthday was over. It had been such a fun celebration and I wasn't ready for things to go back to they way they were - lacking presents and cake. Then I remembered something, "The Mindy Project" would be on. That factoid turned my frown upside down!

I got home from dinner last night and clicked through the DVR until I found the new Mindy episode. It was titled, "Crimes & Midsemeanors & Ex-BFs." Without even watching a single minute, I knew it would be great!

In the opening scene, we learn that Danny is having a tough time letting Mindy keep anything at his place, not even a Ziploc bag with a hair brush and tooth brush. As a compromise, he offers her a black rolling suitcase to schlep her stuff back and forth between their apartments. When Mindy rolled out with that suitcase and its squeaky wheel, I died. Comedic perfection.

Later in the show, Mindy gets served for tax evasion. Turns out she was trying to resolve her tax issues while dating Cliff, but that stalled. In order to secure Cliff's help, she has to lie and say she and Danny have broken up.

Once Danny learns that Mindy lied to Cliff, they get into a fight at Danny's apartment. Danny is wearing a tight black t-shirt and jeans. Didn't he look like Danny Zuko from "Grease"?

When they head into work the next morning, Mindy is wearing a magnificent floral dress and a hot pink crossbody bag. I need this entire outfit. Immediately.

After an awkward elevator ride with two of Mindy's ex-boyfriends, Danny tries to comfort Mindy and we learn that he has a "Grease" fantasy! Just minutes after I was commenting that he looks like Zuko!

Towards the end of the episode, Cliff comes to Danny's apartment to help him finalize his divorce. He agrees to do so in exchange for Danny's Yankee Stadium seat. Turns out Cliff is a Red Sox fan and only wanted it to light it on fire. Ha! I love the nod to Mindy's real life Boston roots.

Cliff comments to Danny that there is no sign of Mindy anywhere in his apartment. In that moment he realizes the error of his ways and where the Yankee Stadium seat once was, he puts a pale pink chest of drawers. Awww. That would never happen in real life, but I'll allow it.

I think the Mindy/Danny dynamic is fast becoming my favorite part of the show. To the point where Jeremy, Peter and Morgan are becoming obsolete.

What did you think of episode three?
