Dining Out: Sweet Peach Diner

When I first moved to Watertown I had no idea how close I was to the town of Belmont. I've had a great time exploring the neighboring zip code and for a while now I've been wanting to try the Sweet Peach Diner.

The diner is located just before the intersection of Trapelo Road and Waverley Oaks Road (Rt 60). Parking can be a bit tricky, as there are only a few spots in front of the restaurant and a few across the street. I had to circle three times before I found a spot.

Inside the diner, the walls are painted a robin's egg blue. In addition to that cheery color, the dining room gets a ton of natural light.

I couldn't help but notice the beach themed art work on the dining room walls. It reminded me of a lot of the breakfast places I like on Cape Cod.

Sweet Peach offers a ton of baked goods (scones, muffins) and they are displayed on cake plates on the wall between the bar area and the dining room.

We were seated right in the middle of the dining room at a table next to a larger table that had a revolving door of families with rambunctious children. I could have done without the noise, the clanging and the kiddos crawling all over the chairs.

Our waiter delivered us menus and silverware in wax paper pouches.

To begin, we decided to share the apple cinnamon scone. Our waiter asked if we'd like the scone grilled. Why yes, yes we would.

The scone had real pieces of apple and the perfect ribbon of cinnamon spice.

My brunch date couldn't decide between sweet or savory, so she opted for both. She ordered the Big Peach which is two eggs (any style), bacon or sausage, home fries, hash browns or cheese grits and two buttermilk pancakes.

She choose to have her eggs over easy, bacon and hash browns. Her eggs were perfectly cooked, but she didn't feel like she had anything to soak up the yolk with, so she ordered a side of toast. She had requested the bacon extra crispy and it turned out fatty and limp. She asked our waiter whether the home fries or the hash browns were crispier and he said hash browns - untrue! Needless to say, she wasn't thrilled with her choice.

I ordered the fried green tomato eggs benedict. I was nervous that the portion size would be out of control, but it was very tame.

The tomato slices were thin and lightly battered and there was just the right amount of Hollandaise sauce.

The home fries on the side were deliciously seasoned and tasted even better when dunked into cold ketchup.

After our feast, our waiter came back with the check, weighted down by two peppermint candies.

Though parking was difficult at Sweet Peach, we were able to get a table right away, which is no small feat at 10:00am on a Saturday. The freshly baked scone was yummy and the home fries were addicting.

I think there are many superior breakfast and brunch places in the area, but Sweet Peach is a good option if you are looking to eat quickly and in a kid friendly place.

Have you discovered any great brunch places recently?
