Dining Out: Del Frisco's Grille

Growing up in Newton, MA, Chestnut Hill was the neighborhood I visited when going to the movies with my friends. The strip mall the movie theater was located in was nothing special, mostly just a giant parking lot.

Now, that same plaza has been completely transformed and redesigned into a development called The Street.

The Street is home to the SuperLux (read about my undying devotion to the SuperLux here), Pinkberry, Treat Cupcake Bar, Shake Shack, Lululemon, Calypso St. Barth, Intermix, Sports Club/LA and more.

One of the newest additions to The Street is Del Frisco's Grille, a younger, more casual spin on the Del Frisco's steakhouse in the Seaport.

Del Frisco's Grille is located on the second floor, right above David's Tea (which is my new obsession).

You enter the restaurant on the side of the building and walk up a big flight of stairs to the hostess stand.

The perimeter of the restaurant is lined with leather booths, all looking out over floor to ceiling windows. The view is only of the parking lot, but it's still nice to people watch.

We nestled into our window front booth and our bubbly waitress delivered us a few menus. I am most definitely a fan of any restaurant whose wine menu is so big it needs its own book.

I died laughing when I discovered they have a cocktail called the Honey Badger. Honey Badger don't care!

When I told people I was going to check out the new Del Frisco's, everyone said, "What the heck are you going to eat?" Let me tell you, the menu at Del Frisco's Grille is so much more vegetarian friendly than the menu at its sister restaurant. I had tons of amazing choices.

I started the meal with the Apt 5D cocktail which is vodka, muddled strawberries, lemon sour, simple syrup and a dash of balsamic.

Strawberry seeds dotted the surface of the drink. It tasted like blended strawberries with a splash of tart lemonade.

To begin, we split the shishito peppers which came in a round wooden box.

The peppers were dripping in yuzu, sprinkled with togarashi and cooked to the perfect blistery texture. I loved the Asian flavors and the kick with every bite.

We also shared the Knife & Fork Caesar which came in a non-traditional presentation. It was two huge romaine lettuce leaves topped with shaved parmesan cheese and a few croutons.

My dinner date asked for dressing on the side, which they were happy to accommodate.

Caesar salad is all about the ratio of lettuce to dressing to cheese to croutons. This salad had the right amount of lettuce, dressing that was slightly too rich, a ton of cheese, but not nearly enough croutons.

For the main course, my dinner date was delivered a serious steak knife. It's hard to tell from the photo, but from handle to tip, it was the length of my whole forearm.

She went with the steak sandwich which came with a side of French fries in the cutest presentation.

The steak was shredded and she said, "The quality of the steak is excellent. The roll is very fresh and dipping the sandwich into the au jus is the best part."

The French fries came upright in a silver pail, paired with a teeny tiny ketchup squirt bottle. Our waitress told us people always ask, "Can I take this ketchup home?"

In addition to the unusually fun presentation, the fries were expertly crisped and totally addicting.

After much deliberation, I decided to order the wild mushroom flatbread which came topped with fontina cheese, caramelized onions and arugula.

The crust was thin but still had a great crunch. Every bite was so cheesy and delicious. I love the combination of the warm mushrooms and onions sprinkled with the bitter arugula.

Everyone knows I live for dessert. Del Frisco's Grille has a list of enticing choices including a coconut cream pie and a warm chocolate cake, but we were just too full! Next time I will have to go back and either share a few apps and then get dessert, or maybe just sit at the bar and have cake and cocktails.

Our experience at Del Frisco's Grille was excellent. It was easy to make a reservation, we got a great table, our waitress was awesome and most importantly, the food was seriously yummy.

Have you spent any time at The Street?
