Emmy Awards 2013: Rants And Raves

I love the Primetime Emmy Awards because they sneak up on you. They aren't part of the usual January - March awards season and without fail, every year, the third week of September rolls around and I realize, "The Emmys are this weekend!" I also love that you get to see all your favorite TV stars just as their shows are returning for their new seasons, sometimes the very next night.

Tonight was a night of upsets. Merritt Wever of "Nurse Jackie" beat stiff competition for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Tony Hale of "Veep" toppled all the men of "Modern Family" for Supporting Actor in a Comedy. Jeff Daniels of "The Newsroom" shocked viewers by triumphing over fan favorites Bryan Cranston, Kevin Spacey and Jon Hamm for Lead Actor in a Drama. Lastly, after an amazing dance performance on stage, Derek Hough rose above five "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographers to take home the Emmy.

Speaking of upsetting, hours after first spotting her on the red carpet, I still can't go over the look from my girl Mindy Kaling. You all know I love Mindy. I've gushed about her incessantly. Tonight I was horrified to see her lackluster plum colored dress, lopsided hair do and awkward presenting moment alongside Stephen Amell, the star of "Arrow."

I really felt like Mindy was poised for a true moment tonight. What a shame.

Enough about the let downs, let's focus on the fashion!

Pop.Bop.Shop.'s Best Dressed

Julia Louis-Dreyfus - My pick for best dressed tonight was far and away Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the star of "Veep." She shimmered in a strapless Monique Lhuillier gown. With every step she took down the carpet, Julia radiated star power.

Elizabeth Moss - I am obsessed with this black and white look from "Mad Men" star Elizabeth Moss. The dress is Andrew Gn and she's sporting bright red lipstick adding the perfect pop of color. If you caught Elizabeth on the red carpet, she brought her mom as her date who looked incredible in a gray, lace Valentino gown.

Kaley Cuoco - "Big Bang Theory" leading lady Kaley Cuoco nailed it in this wine colored Vera Wang. I love the fitted, peek-a-boo bodice and the billowing skirt.

Sofia Vergara - Also in Vera Wang, "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara sizzled in this form fitting number. I am continually impressed by Sofia's dress choices. She has a killer body and knows exactly what works for her.

Claire Danes - I know a lot of you are going to disagree with me on this one (because you already did on Twitter tonight), but I really liked Claire's white sequin Armani Prive gown. I thought it suited her humble personality, but still had the right amount of glitz for the occasion.

And there you have it!

What were your favorite moments? Who did you think rocked the red carpet?
