Explore: Designers In The City

Happy Friday everyone!

While I was in Israel this spring my aunt took me to an incredibly cool place called Designers in the City. It's a hybrid space that is part cafe, part artists' work space.

You can spot the cafe by its beautiful outdoor patio.

Once you walk inside, the artists' studios are both down the stairs and on the second floor.

We walked downstairs first into the rows of cubicles.

There were many fun discoveries including these fashion plates. They look like stylist trading cards.

In the next space over there was beautiful pottery. I could easily see using these bowls when I entertain at the house.

One of the clothing designers was having a sale. What luck!

Her studio reminded me of the work space on "Project Runway." All that's missing is Tim Gunn!

I thought these pieces were unique. If you look closely you can see each piece pictures people riding bicycles.

We then walked up to the second floor where a furry friend greeted us.

There was more pottery on the second level. It was cool to see the same medium expressed in such different ways.

One of the artists decorated her space with rubber ducks! I took a particular liking to the flower child duck.

The next space over was my absolute favorite. I was lusting over this gold and pearl headband. So pretty!

After perusing the work, we headed down the stairs to the cafe. The entire front of the building is floor to ceiling windows. The natural light just pours in.

There is a huge bar along the left side of the cafe, perfect for sipping coffee or having a quick nibble.

We grabbed a seat and a waitress brought us the menu. Each page is decorated with a colorful cartoon.

I went with what had become my signature drink, frozen mint lemonade. So good!

My aunt ordered an ice coffee which looked more like a parfait.

I love that they garnish the drink with coffee beans.

Keeping with the handmade theme, the cafe delivers their checks in a decoupaged jewelry box.

I would love to see a place like this in Boston - part restaurant, part artist collaborative. Do you know of any spaces like that here in Beantown?
