Bake: July 4th Desserts

Is it just me or it impossible to focus on anything other than the fourth of July? All day at work today my mind was wandering to Independence Day.

July 4th has recently become one of my favorite holidays. Not just because it's a day off of work (though I welcome that any time), but because it's the one day when everyone in the country takes a break from their usual routine and commits to being outside, enjoying the weather, grilling and hanging with family and friends. What could be better?

Most people grill for the fourth and since I am a vegetarian, I don't particularly look forward to the burgers and hot dogs. I do however, look forward to dessert!

I've seen a lot of great ideas for red, white and blue themed furniture, decor and food, but this article from The Daily Meal took the cake: "22 Spectacular Fourth of July Cakes."

I hadn't seen any of these recipe ideas before and now I want to make all of them! Check it out:

Aren't these so fun? Can we celebrate the fourth again and again and again so I have time to make all of these?

Of all the desserts highlighted in the slideshow, my absolute favorite was the red, white and blue ombre cake.

I am positive my layers wouldn't be that straight, but I'd at least like to try it!

You can make the ombre cake yourself by following this recipe.

I've told you what I want to make, what are you making for Thursday's festivities?
