Dining Out: Trevi

Earlier this week I shared with you a few of my adventures while on Cape Cod for a friend's bachelorette party. Our last big hurrah of that weekend was dinner out a restaurant called Trevi.

Trevi is located in the outdoor shopping mall called Mashpee Commons. My dad's architecture firm in Cambridge actually designed the place many years ago.

When we arrived to the restaurant we were shown to our table, which was in a separate section of the restaurant. Though it wasn't a private room, there were no other tables in our section.

We each took our seats and on every placemat there was a custom menu that read, "Kate's Bachelorette Dinner" across the top. What a nice touch!

We started the night with rose cava for everyone. Who can resist pink bubbly?

We had a dedicated waiter all night long and he brought us baskets of freshly cut bread (I could actually see him cutting it on a table behind us) and dishes of bright green olive oil dotted with a splash of balsamic.

The custom menu included three courses: salad, two tapas and dessert. To begin, you had your choice of two beautiful salads.

Across from me three of the ladies chose the pear and field green salad which was topped with a generous slice of blue cheese.

I went with the Greek salad, which was topped with plenty of feta cheese, olives and tomatoes.

For the second round, each girl got to choose two tapas. At first that didn't feel like it would be enough, but when you see the size of these plates, you will see we were very wrong!

There were fifteen girls at dinner, so between all of them, I think I captured each and every option.

The goat cheese crostini was a big hit at the table. We were all expecting small slivers of bread topped with more of a goat cheese spread, but what arrived superseded our expectations.

The goat cheese crostini was a thick piece of toasted bread, topped with a large round cut of goat cheese and garnished with roasted red and yellow peppers. It was divine!

Next to me, two girls sampled the duck taco which was duck confit, fig jam and mustard greens in a chickpea pancake. One girl said, "I love the pancake, but the filling is too figgy. I wish it had sauce or cheese or one other element to balance the overwhelming fig flavor."

The seared sea scallops arrived and after the first bite, a friend said, "These have the most perfect sear on them. I love the pear chutney and the bacon adds the right amount of salt." A winner!

Across the table, the bride's sister ordered the Turkish lamb kebob which came open face on a pita. She said, "In this one tapa, I have an entire lamb burger!" See what I mean about the portions?

For the bride's first dish, she chose the Littleneck clams which came in a spicy smoked tomato sauce with sausage. She raved about the dish and about half way through said, "I can't wait to dunk a piece of bread in this sauce!"

Down the far end of the table, a friend was digging into the macaroni gratin. Kind of an odd choice at a tapas place if you ask me, but she said, "I love the cavatappi pasta and the crunchy texture of the top. I just wish it had more bacon in it!"

The next four dishes are ones I shared with a fellow vegetarian at the table. We started with the avocado salad, which was essentially slices of avocado, scallions, cilantro and a light dressing.

For me, the avocado was too firm. I was out numbered though, everyone else at the table loved this one.

The roasted wild mushrooms were fantastic! The mushroom flavor was so pure and strong, that I actually couldn't finish my portion. Too much of a good thing!

The crispy crushed potatoes was hands down my favorite dish. They were like a hybrid of potatoes au gratin and potato pancakes. They had a great, blistery crunch to the outside.

The potatoes were served over a lemon parsley aioli, which was the most heavenly party of the dish. I wanted to spread that aioli on all my other dishes!

Lastly, I tried the char-grilled asparagus, served with a fried egg. I was so busy sharing and sampling from so many different plates that I got to this one last and it was cold. Totally my fault. Unfortunately, the dish didn't taste good cold, so I can't really give it a fair assessment.

To end the feast, each girl received a slice of Trevi's toffee tort. I wasn't sure what to expect from the dish's name, but what arrived was a light, scrumptious piece of cake.

In addition to a delicious nut crust (instead of the traditional cookie crust), the tart was dusted on the outside with Oreo cookie crumbs. I mean. Come on.

Overall, our experience at Trevi was a fantastic one. We had a great table in a secluded space, an attentive waiter and the food was truly incredible. The toffee tart was the perfect sweet ending.
