Grey's Anatomy: New Toy And Baby Boy

I was traveling for work all of last week so I missed Grey's Anatomy. As such, this week you get a double whammy recap. Off to Seattle we go!

Last week:

In the new Seattle Grace Hospital, Jackson is now in charge. Early on he hints that he is thinking of replacing Owen as Chief of Surgery. After enduring ridicule from the gang all day long, about 75% of the way through the episode, Jackson stands up to both Yang and Karev and finally earns some street cred. Being so beautiful is really such a burden.

Speaking of burdens, quite a fight breaks out between Derek and Owen. Derek shouts, "You don't want to get into who is responsible for all of this. You don't!" To which Owen hollers back, "I quit!"

Alex had a pretty rough episode, first dealing with a teenage patient who didn't want to experience any side effects from her kidney transplant, and then seeing Jo with her new boyfriend, a doctor from OB. I think my favorite part was Karev trying to text his patient out of the bathroom she'd locked herself in.

Also on the patient front, Kepner is working with a young man who wants to come off his ventilator so that he can donate his organs. He is so at peace with his decision that he throws a party in his hospital room, Solo cups and all.

When Kepner tries to talk him out of it and convince him to live, he takes her hand and says, "April, you're fired."

Eventually Kepner accepts his decision and she tries to calm his mother by telling her where all of his organs are going to go and all of the people he'll be helping. Just when it seems she can't stand to listen to it anymore, his mother says, "Please, keep going."

Toward the end of the episode we watch him take his last breaths to the song "I want you to go first." Pretty hard not to cry during that scene.

In the final scene of the hour, Jackson says in the leadership meeting that he wants to re-open the ER, reinstate Owen as Chief and to rename the hospital Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in honor of Lexie and Mark. What a perfect ending.

This week:

At the start of tonight's episode we meet, Lodox, the ER's new scanning machine. I haven't seen Owen or Cristina look that happy since they first kissed over the vent. It really pains me that they are happiest now that they are divorced.

For the entire episode each and every intern is dying to use the Lodox. Brooks even offers to let the team try and find the marble she ingested as a child. Ha!

This hour Bailey made rounds to each and every new hospital board member pitching her genome project for funding. At one point, she even talks straight to Meredith's baby bump, pitching her kid in utero!

Meanwhile, Yang is being pitched by Dr. Russell for his cardio project, but she doesn't realize it. He is buttering her up good. Her revenge was extra sweet.

This hour Meredith had a patient who was an elementary school teacher. At first Meredith thought she had gallstones, but it turned out to be inoperable cancer. How sad was it when her students to came to visit her? Also, where were all the parents?

My favorite part of tonight's show was Alex and his 12 year old patient torturing Jo's new boyfriend, the OB doc. It was childish fun, but so amusing. The new boyfriend fought back eventually and told Karev, "You two laugh about it while I'm nailing Jo in the bathroom at the bar." Ewwww.

I also couldn't help but laugh when Kepner confided in Meredith that she wanted to "Go to the carnival" and "Rides the rides" with her new man Matthew. Kepner reminded me of Season 1 Izzie this episode.

In the final scene Meredith and Derek learn they are expecting a baby boy. At last, Meredith cracked a smile about her pregnancy.

In previews for next week's episode, Sarah Chalke from Scrubs guest stars.
